Defenitely the problem is the player/agent part of the equation (though Liverpool management has a responsibility in letting the contract negiotions be mishandled til it got to this point), but what I mean with behind close doors is not just putting gag order on them, you cant. But be alot more firm and discplinary, set the boundaries, before he/they think its acceptable to act this outlandish. Or try to solve this mess before it became this much of an embarrassment. This kid and the agent are making a fuss without actually outright saying he will leave for sure, which is extra funny in itself. Clowning out and think they can take the club for a ride. Havent even handed out a transfer request, call their bluff, see if they do it, and if they do, do it in your own terms and only for what you see is big enough sum. At this rate City (who just bought Delph) who are desperate for any and every enghlish talent due to CL rules, and which you should be able to demand whatever you want almost due to that, are being handed all the cards when it comes to what fees they can give to get him due to this current mess. If it comes to it, IMO it could be useful to just take the strong no nonsense posiition with this kid and force him to stay. He might moan and sulk few a while, freeze himself out, but eventually has to play or its bad for his career. Its worse sitaution due to expiring contract, but money aside, might be worth to take a stand with this kind of BS.
Btw, have you read this article? (total clickbait whoring lol) Quite funny/silly stuff (agreed regarding Henderson in this, but the solution to Sterling is just a laugh):

I did not know Guardian hired internet trolls as journalists
