The ref fucked this one up, would be surprising if both Shelvey and Sterling aren't retrospectively banned. Not quite sure how the ref couldn't see Sterling's strike to the face when he was looking at him from 2 feet away. That's just bottling it because of the earlier error with Shelvey.

Shelvey's was also an elbow. And did he get credited with the OG in the end? Hilarious day for him considering it was his ex-team and his own manager was slating him before the game.

Don't think so. This isn't Italy, where clubs get relegated because someone is rumoured to have said that he suspects the clubs may have done something that may or may not have been illegal.
Italians love conspiracy theories and scapegoats. The English love to act as if they're above all that.

It's cultural thing, not about being smart. Italians really self - scrutinize and, challenge authority or air out dirty laundry in slightest sign of foul play (the French aren't far for being like this either) .
While for example Anglo peeps, both UK in footie or US, I noticed are more inclined to rather sweep it under the rug then shout from the rooftops. The latter with both track and fields massive doping amongst their star names, or even further back with the doping tests on NHL players whenever they were on international duty, pretty much hush hush policy on it all.
