Their defense sucks and I don't think they even have proper midfielders. They are a joke. I thought signing DiMaria was a mistake when they could have used those funds to strengthen the defense and midfield. DiMaria is an incredible player, of course, but I just never thought the attack was the problem.

How do you play a back 3 if you have not a single solid defender. Dat van Gaal's logic is appalling. But i agree, the money should have been used for better purposes. Di Maria is good but not a savior, far from it.

RVP was of course a huge factor that season as well, but still Fergie was able to inspire and get every last drop of motivation out of that mediocre bunch right until the end. And don't forget that they were seconds away from winning the title the season before that as well (without RVP)
