Yea, it's a bit long. But for a game like basketball or baseball, it works, because of the nature of the game, the best team won't always win in just one game. Especially in baseball where they have 4 or 5 man pitching rotations, they play those seven game series so all the pitchers get a chance to influence the series.

But the NFL obviously is a one game knockout playoff.
Have you ever gone to any of those? Not necessarily finals, but just any game. I wonder how different it is from Euro football.

I'd say so, at football games. Especially at college football games. There is a college game played every year where i live in Jacksonville, Florida between the UNiversity of Florida and the University of Georgia, it's a neutral site game they have been playing it here just about every year since 1933. The stadium is split 50-50 between both sets of fans and it's basically a weekend long party. They call it "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." :)

Here's what it looks like in the stadium, Georgia fans in red and black on the right and Florida fans in orange and blue on the left.

Sorry to rant there. But it's about the best tailgating experience there is.

Basically every weekend in Morgantown when there's a halfway decent team in town.

I don't know how you endure those finals. 7 matches just to settle a winner, who has time for that?
Its too time consuming, but the best usually come out top as luck as a variable is less. Those fluke CL finals losses we suffered against dortmund and RM in '96 & '97 would never have happened in a 7 game series. It still greatly annoys me losing those 2 considering we were undoubtly the best team in both tournaments only to luck out at the end.
