I can see where you are coming from. However, my only guess is - if you spend 70m on someone you have to 100% start him. You have to start Dybala and Higuain and Pjanic. Perhaps Allegri is not sure he can start all of them while playing BBC. Or perhaps, we don't think its prudent to spend that kind of money after spending 90m on Higuain. I suspect its more the latter.

Yes, if we would buy James, he would definitely have to start, and that would almost certainly mean breaking up the BBC, which is bad, but I believe that James would give us more compared to what BBC can offer, because at the back we are rock solid, but up front we still struggle. Also Allegri said that if Marotta buys him great players he will make it work.

I don't see what is the problem in spending 70M on one player after we have already spent 90M on Higuain. Juventus is a company and it's run like one, and the success is measured in won trophies, which you can't win if you don't invest into players. And -30M€ net spent is probably easily acceptable for a club like Juve.

I can't see the catastrophic picture that some posters here portray if we don't sign a midfielder tbh, but maybe because I don't feel that basing your investment choices on absolute worst case scenarios is a rational thing to do. I mean Lemina will probably miss two weeks as Gabon will be kicked out from the quarter finals max, and Asa will miss three weeks, and all those weeks are Champions league free btw. At this point of the season and from what we know (again basing my analysis on facts as much as possible) Marchisio will have 2 months of football in his legs, and Pjanic will be fully integrated into the squad and Khedira will still be our best midfielder, if during those couple of weeks an injury occurs we'll count on Sturaro (criminally bashed and underrated here) and Hernanes may be fielded against a serie a side for a match or worst case scenario in 2..It absolutely isn't the end of the world, and Allegri can always make a tactical change and play with two midfielders or even use Pjaca in the midfield for a match as it was rumored that he sees him in the mezzala role. And if worse comes to worst we can always loan in some stop gap ala Boriello but this time in the midfield.
Don't get me wrong I'll be over the moon if we get a good midfielder and kick Hernanes' ass out of Turin, but if it can't be done we are not doomed and we should be able to achieve our season's objectives which in my opinion are winning the Scudetto and reaching the CL's semi finals and hope for the best at this point. Other clubs would be stupid not to ask for more. They know :

- we sold our best CM
- we got a kings ransom for him
- it's the desperate dog days of the transfer window
- beppe gonna beppe

we aint getting gustavo, you know why? because there is just no time for the selling club to find a replacement. That is why I don't think we are signing anyone good. Something beppe can't seem to get his head around and in times of need we will finish up with some provincial player

Cuadrado would be great - Also although Im not for it as he can be much better in a RF/RWB position but I do think he can play as a CM as well - He is fast with great technique, attack and track back shoots well from distance - He actually has all the necessary attributes to be a good box to box CM!

Id be happy with Fabregas+Cuadrado signings to end the mercato - Kovacic on loan with option would be good as well

You know our CM situation is bad when you two are trying to excuse it by playing a fullback and a winger who never played there as possible solutions

So we spend a trillion dollares on Miss Piggy in order to compete among the best in Europe.

Yet people don't think we need another midfielder, despite one starter coming back from a ACL-injury at the age of 30, one starter being injury-prone, the best backup being injury-prone.

Yeah, that leaves us with one of the best in Serie A in Pjanic, a decent young backup in Lemina, and two players of poor quality in Hernanes and Sturaro.

But, but.. we can always sign someone in January. Ehh, ever seen the price tag of good players in January. But, but.. if Khedira and Asamoah stays healthy [they have combined 49 league appearances the last two seasons out of 152] () and Marchisio returns to form :xfinger: we'll be fine. Let's hope Pjanic stays healthy.

In other words: we need a midfielder.

Heed this post per favore Beppe, shit can go haywire quickly in our current midfield.

Maybe our chance is to get a CM that's not in the starting 11 of his club. Don't know about Cesc as they still have Mikel for CM/DM so that's 4 players for 2 spots.... Yaya is only used in charitable games at City so he'd be available....Paying 15+ for a freebie next year seems a bit much so I'd rather pass on Witsel....then you have the RM situation where there's 3 CM/AM that don't start and they also got Morata so he'll be 1st attacking reserve...United has Schweini who I'd take only as a volunteer, Herrera doesn't play much, haven't seen Schneiderlin play this season more that 5 minutes so there might be another CM available besides Schweini....

Gustavo is more like pure DM. Better tackling and defensive skills.
Witsel can be used better as a CM/AM as well.
Depends what Max is looking for more.

Both are fine but really nothing special imo.
