This mercato seems so "easy". Sell Zaza and kill Moratas buyback off with the money. Get Berardi and we would have Mandžukić + Morata as prima punta and Dybala + Berardi as seconda punta. Replace Cuadrado with Dani Alves, loan Benatia and activate Pjanićs clause so we have 4 strong central midfielders for 3 positions. Mercato done.

Somehow I have a feeling that it won't look anything like this. Don't think we will keep Morata for that much money and Pjanić will get a big money offer as soon as we approach him seriously.

Bingo. We struggle to get our most wanted targets.

Why not just use the 25m they're planning on using for berardi on morata instead? If real is planning on selling him, there has to be a deal there to be made.

Why are we linked with Lukaku? He is going to be expensive.

And if we are prepare to spend that much on a striker, might as well keep Morata

I don't understand why we don't just give Roma 38 million for Pjanic. He is proven, has that all important Serie A experience, and is still quite young. 38 million for a player of his quality is a steal. We could do a loan + obligation to buy for 25 or 30 million with Kovacic from Real, and our midfield is set. We should try and sell two of Padoin, Asamoah, Pereyra, and Sturaro. I'm sure a couple of them can bring in around 40 million, thus offsetting the Pjanic transfer.

In attack, we are set to buy Berardi. We should pay Madrid another 25-30 million to keep Morata here (bringing his total cost to us to around 45-50 million, not 60 as some of you have suggested, since we only paid them 20 million a couple of years ago). We should approach Palmeiras for Gabriel Jesus (keep him in Brazil until January at least), and then sell Zaza for 30 million, thus offsetting the money paid to Madrid for Morata.

Alves, Kovacic, Pjanic, Berardi, and an option on Gabriel Jesus would be a stellar Mercato. Don't forget we also have an option on Bentacur until June/July 2017. Total net spend this mercato would be something like 60-65 million, since we wouldn't need to pay for Jesus just yet, and Kovacic would be a loan + obligation type purchase.

Couple of factors at play here.

1) The 38m buy out clause would be 1 straight lump sum payment. That might be easier to do if Real Madrid exercise their buy out for Morata (which to my knowledge would also be a lump sum payment). Most transfers are usually spread out over 2 or 3 years in terms of the payments.

2) Roma has to the end of the month to find a way to break even or turn a profit from transfers in order to adhere to FFP. If the papers are to be believed, Juve has supposedly reached an agreement with the player and are trying to do a deal with Roma involving players and staggered payments. (FFP works on accounting P&L rather than cash flow).

My guess is that Marotta's meeting with Real Madrid (some time this week) will potentially act as a catalyst on what to do. Roma may be interested in Zaza. If Morata is bought back then perhaps we might pay the buyout. If not, then perhaps we try to do a cash + player style of deal.

I too would love to have Pjanic here but I am just trying to explain what is holding Marotta back. The longer no-one else enters the fray, the stronger our bargaining position will be as we approach the end of the month. Lets see if it works or backfires - my hunch is it may backfire.

I don't think we have sealed Pjanic yet purely because two reasons, firstly we don't want to pay the 38 million straight, either we get to pay in installment or push in some players and secondly he is not our top target. I think we are still looking at Gomes and Mascherano, and also depending on our talks with Real on Morata, as we might be looking at some of their midfield options.

#SkyItalia reiterate that Juve want
both Kovacic & Pjanic. Not one of
them

Roma are open to negotiating a deal
for Pjanic for less than the 38m
clause. #GdS

Roma's open to selling Pjanic for
less than 38m because if a club pays
his clause more than 15% of the
transfer fee goes to the player.
