And he would be 2-3 mil a year like Alex Sandro if we were spending 26mil on him. Alex Sandro who was a hit or miss signing too, many thought we got the wrong FB from Porto, and Danilo was the really good one.

Most people on this forum were excited by Sandro's signing. Hardly any one thought that he was a hit or miss signing. With good reason because we had signed one of the best FB's in Europe.

You are forgetting. We had quite a few complaining about his price of 26mil because he was in the last year of his contract, and others complaining that Danilo was the FB we should have signed from Porto.

But you are right, most were excited.

Regardless, Can on a free in a position we lack quality is a decent deal even if his wages are inflated. Hopefully he continues to develop here and become a top class player. I still want another better CM though.

but the points is, Sergej is worth it. if you (deservedly) raise Pjanic wages because of us bringing in a massive name like SMS, thats fine. if you have to raise half your squads wages because you gave too much to an inferior player, then that becomes a problem

Sandro will need a pay raise regardless and Pjanic will and should get a small bum soon. Other than that I dont really think anyone else will complain. Who else would?

If anything, judging by the rumors, AS wanted out last summer, we forced him to stay, was going to let him go this summer, and that's why a new contract was never signed.

There were continuous rumors of us offering him a new contract, so obviously the club didn't think he was only worth 2.8m salary after previous season.

ive been against him since the 5M first came up. and why are you comparing him to Khedira? starter for Madrid and Germany for years, established international and proven winner. besides, different situation back then. we lost Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez at the same time, we didnt have clear stars other than Pogba, so making Khedira one of the top earners was much more justified in such circumstances than with Can now.

5m in today's market for a decent free player isn't calamitous. It's rather on par.

No they shouldnt get that much. Do you think that Sandro will demand what Can is making or leave to get 4.5 somewhere else? He knows his market value. His agent knows and will tell him he can be mad or go else where and make the same. The biggest thing with guys like Sandro is what thre epl is offering him.

But for different reasons. I'm fine with signing Can as potential 4rd mid, or squad player, he can be of use of course, but just not for that kind of money. It's completely undeserved.

Most players brought in from outside Serie A and Italy will have to be overpaid. That is just reality. If you want to keep squad wages in order, then you can only sign Italian players or unknowns among small Serie A teams.
