Besides, like I said, word on the street has it that Moggi inserted a clause in the pre-contract so that Emerson will have to pay us damages of around 5 mil € if he joins another club.

thats a bunch of BS.

No player would agree to that 5 Mil clause. Emerson will probably net 3.5 - 4 Million per season at Juve... so theres no way he would wager more than one years salary.

Word on the "street".... thats all it is... Someone says, "I wonder why Emerson is so stubborn about joining Juve. Maybe theres a clause in his pre - contract"

then someone adds a number - in this case 5 Million and it sounds authentic.

like i said, its B S

Zlatan,

Sorry that just cannot happen - Emerson has a contract with Roma, and if he signed pre-contract written agreement with Moggi then both he and Juve would breach his current contract and thus liable to compensation. In Emerson case, his career might jeopardized through lenghty suspension, which I would guess would run minimum a year.
There was a similar case in NBA involving Joe Smith and Wolves, and in the end both parties got penalized.
As far as I am concerned, Emerson is refusing to move to other teams other than us because 1) he is a man who abide by his words and 2) he may enjoy great rapport with Capello. I remember Don Fabio once said, "Emerson is the kind of player you build the team around".
And there certainly isnt any written pre-contract agreement with Emerson, otherwise we in trouble. Hence, I reckon Moggi would be wise to give in extra couple of million of $ and conclude the transfer soon.

Hardly. I think that the majority of people would put Claude Makelele and Roy Keane above Emerson in that list, not to mention Steven Gerrard and Rino Gattuso.

Rubbish. Roy Keane is not the same Roy Keane of three years ago. Claude Makelele is a good player, but lacks the creativeness and leadership of Emerson. Steven Gerrard better than Emerson? Thats laughable. In my books Gerrard isn't even half the player Emo is. Rino Gattuso is probably the best destroyer out of them all, but he still looks like he runs around the pitch like a chicken with his head cut off. Emerson is the complete creative midfield destroyer.

IcuBlu and Jun-hide: I'm quite aware that it's against FIFA rules and regulations, but lets not forget that the same thing happned to Figo when he was joining Real.

Zlatan,

Figo made a verbal agreement with Real, so there was no way FIFA could have enforced the law due to lack of hard evidence even though such act are agains the regulation. Verbal agreement are part of the game: Fergie did it with Stam, Real did it with Figo, we are doing with Emerson, Roma with Mexes, and so forth. However, written pre-contract is a different problem altogether and only through written contract Juve can inact such clause (Fining Emerson to 5m euros). Otherwise, there is no way for Juve to enforce Emerson if the latter is in breach with their agreement.:).

As for comparing Emerson with bunch of EPL players, we all know that Ian is extremely biased towards british based stars!:D. And we also know that Brits and other english speaking countries have tendency to overrate their players big time!;) However, I cant really blame him since I am also slightly biased towards Serie A and La Liga stars.

Moggi is doing a great job. The later he buys Emerson, the cheaper he will become, as Roma HAVE to sell him. After all, I would also take him for free next year :D

Exactly! And that's why you will guide the Azzurri to another golden era.

No offence taken, Zlatan.:p.

Anyway for those who think Rino is just there for taking legs out, I strongly advise them to see some Rossineri game next year. Yes he isnt terrific passer, but he doesnt do things that he cant do. He understands his role and limitations and tries to utilize his asset to full degree which Claude Makelele made a living out of. The difference is that Makele is hell of lot smarter player but he never had a physical characteristics of Gattusso.
Beisd,e Rino's game is evolving every year: If there is a weakness in his then it is lack of footballing brain, or anticipation, than his technique. He does have tendency to run like headless chicken at times i.e. Depor which reduces his effectiveness.
