Emo to follow Capello

Roma ace Emerson is on the verge of joining Fabio Capello at Juventus, according to his agent.

The Brazilian has been linked with a switch to the northern giants and his representative is confident that he’ll now follow Capello to Turin.

"I still can’t confirm that we have an agreement with the Bianconeri but we are close," Gilmar Veloz is quoted as saying.

"The arrival of Capello at the club as their new Coach is undoubtedly a very important factor for Emerson now."

The former Bayer Leverkusen star will be sold this summer as the capital club risk losing him for nothing next year.

But Roma are keen to sell him to another side rather than strengthen their arch-rivals Juventus. However, Veloz insists the Old Lady are in pole position.

"We’ve spoken to both Real Madrid and Inter in the past," added the midfielder’s representative.

"We’ve been in contact with the Nerazzurri in particular after speaking with Marco Branca on three occasions but without ever reaching an agreement.

"To be honest, I think it will be very difficult to see the situation change from now on."

Whispers circulating around the peninsula today also suggest that Capello has asked his new club to sign Christian Vieri.

The Italian may still leave Inter before the start of the new campaign, especially as Alberto Zaccheroni has been confirmed in his job as Nerazzurri boss.

The two men seemingly don’t have the best relationship after they clashed on numerous occasions in the last few months.

Again, even if real give Roma 10000000000000000€, Emo has to say yes, and he said no. He ONLY wants Juve, so I am confident that he will play for Juve!

Emerson set for U-turn over Real Madrid
tribalfootball.com - June 5, 2004

Real Madrid are on the verge of signing AS Roma midfielder Emerson.

The two clubs reached agreement over a £11 million transfer fee for the Brazilian international on Thursday. Talks were then reopened between the player and Real.

Earlier this week, Emerson pulled out of negotiations with Real as he had his heart set on following coach Fabio Capello to Juventus.

But Roma's frosty relationship with Juve means any agreement between the two clubs was highly unlikely. Only yesterday, Roma president Franco Sensi declared: "I'll die before I sell one of our players to Juventus."

There are only two solutions for Emerson - to accept Real's offer or remain with Roma next season.

"I want you to only remember that an agreement between Madrid and Roma already exists," said Real representative Ernesto Bronzetti.

"It seems strange to me Emerson wishes to become the first player in the world to reject a club like Madrid."

Apart from the fact that the article's from tribalfootball, I'll try to give it a bit more credit and treat it with some objectivity.

Even if Sensi said that he wouldn't sell one of his players to Juve, Roma don't have much of a choice if Emerson didn't agree personal terms with Real, because if they force him to stay at Roma because he wants to sign for Juve, they risk losing him on a free transfer next season, and I think even Sensi's not stupid enough to lose out on the transfer money he could potentially get from Emerson's sale.

So IMHO, if Emerson chooses Juve, he'll come to Juve. I mean we've already taken Capello and Zebina, and even though they were 'free', it still goes to show to a certain extent that the "I would never sell a Roma player to Juve" reasoning doesn't really hold water

We bought Zebina before we 'pinched' Capello from under Sensi's nose. Also, Zebina wasn't one of the Roma 'stars' so him going to Juve didn't bother Sensi so much.

Now we have Capello - which would surely anger Sensi immensely - and the fact that Juve wants one of his best players, I think would make Sensi do whatever he can to stop this deal from happening.

The fact that nothing appears (although you can't tell with Moggi) to be happening is worrying, if Roma put enough obstacles in Juve and Emerson's way - he may decide that if he wants out he'll have to go to Madrid after all.

The longer this takes - the greater chance Madrid have of signing him.

Emerson rejects new Real bid Saturday 5 June, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emerson has again confirmed he will only join Juventus, so it’s reported Real Madrid have turned their attention towards Christian Vieri.

“We have an agreement with Juve,” agent Gilmar Veloz told Spanish newspaper ‘Marca’, “and it will be respected. Roma told us that in July we could choose his next club and we have chosen Juventus.”

His contract expires in 2005, but the Giallorossi need to sell the Brazilian in order to raise ready cash. The Capital club has a long-standing rivalry with Juve and have accepted a basic £12m offer from Real Madrid instead.

“We had a brief meeting with Real President Florentino Perez on May 21,” revealed Veloz, “and he understood the situation. Any player would be happy to join Real Madrid, but we cannot break our word to Juventus.”

Roma could effectively dig their heels in over the issue and refuse to release the Brazilian midfielder until his contract expires in 2005, even if that means losing out on money and his performance.

“Roma can offer him to Inter, Real or whoever, it really doesn’t matter,” concluded his agent. “If Emerson has to sit on the bench for a year, then we will wait it out, but he will play for Juventus eventually.”

Met with such a stern response from their number one midfield target, Real Madrid are now reportedly turning their attention towards Christian Vieri.

The Inter striker is at the centre of talks for a move to Juventus, as confirmed by Director General Luciano Moggi, but there are problems between the two clubs.

Real could now intercept with an offer of £10.6m plus a three-year contract worth £5m a season.

Vieri and Ronaldo had always publicly regretted the fact they hardly ever shared the field during their time at Inter due to a series of injuries for both players, but they could reunite at the Bernabeu.

The Italian international is not new to La Liga, as he was top scorer during his one campaign with Atletico Madrid.

GREAT NEWS!
