EMERSON UPDATE
Inter back in Emo race
Wednesday 26 May, 2004
Inter are ready to take on Juventus in the chase to sign Roma midfielder Emerson this summer.
It’s understood that Juve have struck a deal with the player but they have yet to agree a fee with Roma.
That may allow Inter to hijack the move as they are understood to be in negotiations with the Giallorossi.
Roma and Juventus are not on good terms and capital chief Franco Sensi would prefer to sell Emerson to the Nerazzurri instead.
It’s been reported that the midfielder could cost as little as £11m as he wants to remain in Serie A.
That is well within Inter’s spending power but the northern giants may propose a player plus cash deal.
That option could interest Roma boss Fabio Capello who has his eyes on two Inter players in particular.
He is keen to bring back Cristiano Zanetti to the club but also net defender Fabio Cannavaro.
The latter, who has never really settled at Inter, could replace Walter Samuel who has now left for Real Madrid.
Some whispers suggest that Emerson’s agent Gilmar Veloz has already met with Inter, who are ready to offer the former Bayer Leverkusen man a four-year deal worth £2.2m a season.
