:D

I think you are very harsh evaluating Cavani's potential. I saw you compare his probable arrival to that of Amauri's but what's your opinion about Cavani having seen him play? When we were about to sign Amauri, the majority weren't really supportive of the idea (except a few like Deneb and Hustini :p), especially considering the big amount we were to spend on him. Most of fans now want him at Juve. And majority's judgment means a lot.

Cavani is an excellent player, ain't comparable to Amauri neither stats wise nor performance wise. Every team in Europe would want to have him. And I wouldn't read too much into him underperforming for his NT. Ronaldo in Portugal is nowhere near his level at Real in spite of playing in his favorable position. Cavani would be a dream signing imo, even though I would say no to his arrival for anything over 35M.
I think he's a great player, but he should stay where he is for the benefit of himself, Napoli, and Juve. I don't think he will travel well outside of Napoli. Transfer to Juve, and we'll probably get about 60% of the player he is at Napoli at 120% the cost, which sounds like a raw deal.

But I never compared him to Amauri -- despite the obvious Palermo connection.

Do you guys think he can handle Matri's position in yesterday's condition (ie. against a packed defense) well? Because I'm fucking sure we'll be facing more of those situations next season.

His finishing is probably better than Matri, but if you are deprived of service like he was yesterday then he cant do shit either.

Which is why if we get an RWF like Suarez, the CF will fix itself. Personally, I think Vucinic-Quag/Matri-Suarez would be much better than Vucinic-Cavani-Pepe. The Cavani upgrade will hardly be felt if the service remains as limited as it has for Matri. Cavani maybe more self sufficient, but not enough to make up for the lack of service that he will face. Look at him right now. Hamsik and Lavezzi run tirlelessly to create for him, he won't have that at Juventus if a chunk of our funds go towards acquiring him alone.

Yeah, exactly. People need to be careful about wailing on about e.g. Matri yesterday and thinking that one player like Cavani can magically change that around. Cavani these days plays like a CF. Much like Matri, only better. And they need some sort of service other than our midfielders optimistically firing the ball straight at them with two defenders riding their back.

We need players that can create some sort of space and opportunity for our main forward like Lavezzi and Hamsik do for Cavani. Yesterday we had ONE guy trying to do that in Vucinic and we all know he can't always be relied on to do that consistently. That 3-5-2 just doesn't work out for me against really defensively minded teams. 5 defenders, 1 defensive midfielder, 1 part time dynamic midfielder, 1 regista that has to do it all and one moody enigma in vuci can't service a CF against teams that just park it.

i have second throughts about the potential purchase of cavani as well.

it is just that napoli has totally tailored their game towards cavani. we can not afford to do that, since we have a working team and on top of that, even though i like that he does track back to defend very often, he should not do that if he plays for us.

we need a centre forward who is always available as spearhead of our attack. if he defends and we regain the possession we will have no one to play to, while he is still in our half because he just helped defending. there is a similarity to amauri actually in that cavani does perform best when not playing centre forward for the whole time but occasionaly making runs from a second striker position (to evade being double marked) and running from just outside the opponents box. amauri was similar in that he did have his best moments when him and miccoli did switch positions often and miccoli was infront of amauri so he could receive the ball with someone in front of him as centre forward and so the attention would not solely be on him being double man marked, but the defenders attention split between him and the other attacker. the defenders had to try to stop amauri from either passing to miccoli and shooting which is much more difficult than just double marking amauri if he is the centre forward with no body to play the ball to when he faces the goal. the defenders could just block all his shots and totally neutralise him because he has nowhere to play, no other option but to try and shot or dribble which is hard against two defenders. amauri did actually score some nice goals against us from just outside of the box just because there was miccoli in the box to receive a ball and thus drawing attention away from amauri.

just check what amauri can do if he is not the center of attention

i am not saying that amauri is a great striker, just pointing out that it is very difficult for ANY striker in the world, if he has to play as lone centre forward without any support in the box. when he played for us in the last seasons we would just loop the ball forward and expect amauri to score while having 3 defenders in the box against him with no support and noone making runs to draw attention away from him. even cavani can not do anything when he is double marked and no one makes runs. cavani does immensely benefit from hamsik and lavezzi always running around and keeping the other defenders busy. cavani would not do shit if he played for us under zaccheroni or ferrara without support !

That article has gotten me so excited about this potential move. With, say Lichsteiner, I thought he was a total arsehole at Lazio, but I love him as a Juve player. Cavani I love as a Napoli player. Even if Napoli make it into the Champions League, I'd have thought they could take the Cavani cash from us and buy one of the Higuians or Dzekos that will be available this summer. That also would satisfy those (myself included) who want to see the number of star players in Serie A increase.
