That mercato will hardly ever be repeated. Marotta hit the jack-pot with Vidal, Licht, the "past it" Pirlo, and next year again with Pogba.
I would gladly have some of the same, but it's close to impossible to repeat. Not that we didn't continue signing free transfers and cheap talents after that, but most were failures.
And, tbh, if we had money back then, we were probably gonna buy big name players, but we didn't have money, didn't have CL, didn't even make it to Europe.
yes that mercato was legendary but philosophy can be repeated. You should try to spread the resources to cover as many holes as possible. That’s what Beppe did. It didn’t always work. For example instead of splashing cash on Van Persie we signed Asamoah, Isla, Pepe and Giovinco.

No I just learned my lesson in CR7 saga. I seriously was hoping a return to Beppe style management but it’s evident that’s not the case.
It’s fine if you don’t want to believe me.
it's all right, i also have my own reservations about the management.

morata to vlahovic is certainly an upgrade though. the other major signing (loca) was also a good one. let's hope they continue on the same path. scamacca (the other option) was unavailable in january, and he probably has an agreement with marotta anyway, so there's that too.

As in 28 year old Higuain for 90 mil? Lol (and I came to really like Higuain while he was here)

How exactly is this transfer different than Beppe buying an older Lukaku for €88 million coming off a flop of a season. If anything this is a higher upside, better transfer for a cheaper fee.

You’re acting like it has to be one or the other. It doesn’t. And the best way to build a top team is to have a bit of both. Wise, good value deals, and the occasional splash on top young players like Chiesa and Vlahovic.

snacks will be benched cause morata tracked back more :allegri:

btw that's the point i tried to make the other day: fiorentina are more efficient and have more space in attack with vlahovic just because the opposition concentrates specifically on vlahovic. i'm positive everyone will have a bit more space in attack. at least that's a realistic expectation.
To be honest, I don't see much of a change coming unless the whole team is more aggressive.

In terms of what Vlahovic can do by himself.. well he doesn't fall down like a pussy so he'll hold the ball longer than Morata which lets the team come up the pitch. And probably the opponent would be more reluctant to commit as much in attack, so that will help our defence. But Morata is a notorious counter attacker so I'm not sure if the opponent respects Vlahovic more.

I think, honestly, our game will remain the same and this guy will just put a few more balls in the net. There's only so much you can do with 2 strikers, one of them being Dybala just walking around the pitch like a sloth.

If there's one thing I hope he changes is his goal celebration, specially when we're playing in the Stadio Olympico :scared:

That Higuain deal was one expensive exception. Lukaku deal was 74m iirc and he has a very unique skill set and physical characteristics. But you are right that was a big gamble too. Let’s hope this deal is more like Lukaku than Higuain

Boss said we poor and wont do any deals, then went and signed one of the best young attackers in the game who is outscoring Ronaldo and Messi, for 75m.

Maybe we take what these bosses say with a pinch of salt when it comes to what they can or cant do.
Oh I heard the same arguments in 2018 when we signed CR7.

Ronaldo did great for us, the rest of the team failed. Hope we learned from that experience.

Nah. We were both wrong. I just checked again. £68 million or €80 mil euros.

And yet you keep forgetting we just signed a top young CM this summer who has been brilliant for us. There’s no reason to believe we won’t be looking to make a similar transfer again this coming summer. Especially when we shed some useless mids on big wages.

Top strikers cost money, especially ones who are 21 and score like Vlahovic, and can score from both inside and outside the box. His cost reflects that and fills the position for a decade possibly. It is a position of huge need.

Again. Maybe just stop being such a Debbie downer for a single day after this move. It wouldn’t be that hard. You’ll have plenty of time to shit on it later.

Yes pls would love one of Scamacca/Broja type of CF here .

Im impressed with Broja so far. The games i saw for Southampton he played really well. He has great strength and plays with high intensity and confidence for being so young. He is too good for Southampton for sure, hope we are looking at him.

Scamacca could be great too, but it looks unlikely now that we got Dusan. Hope he does not go to Inter
