Question to all the Native Spanish speakers:

was watching a Spanish stream yesterday and instead of pronouncing the "s" in his name they were saying what sounded like "Cothta" (th' sound)....what dialect/region would do that? Same with Sandro it sounded like "thandro"? Almost like a lisp.
I presume you are talking about coverage from Spain itself. It's called the Castilian lisp, which is essentially standard Spanish spoken by a large swathe of the country. Regional dialects and languages have differences and don't often have the lisp.

In southern Spain there is a meeting point between what they call seseo and ceceo. When I recently went to Andalucia, between Sevilla, Granada and Cordboba there was a difference in whether people pronounced "thank you" as "grathiath" or "grasias", it seems pretty interchangeable on this border but definitely has regions. Sevillanos always seemed to say "grasias", you can see it as the blue seseo area well inside what is otherwise ceceo.

To answer your question it was probably coverage from a Madrid-based tv station. In the word "Madrid" itself you've probably heard coverage where they pronounce it with a very soft and lispy second "d", almost like "Madrith".

Story goes at one point in history there was a king in Spain who had a lisp when speaking. Everyone in the region started speaking like that to honor him.

Dont know if it’s true though, maybe a half truth or just a myth.

Thank you, quite informative. I am also glad to know I wasn't hearing it incorrectly on the stream. I couldn't figure it out but I didn't even think it would have been from Spain.

If Costa can destroy someone then Serie A is really fucked up
:baus: I advise you to shut it. Bundesliga aka Bayern's feeder league isn't any better. Have you checked the standings lately? You guys are 23 points, 23 fucking points ahead of the 2nd placed team in the league. That's a full 7 wins + 1 draw up on the 2nd best team in the league. That's fucking laughable, and you even have the gall to call that a competition :howler:  Even the fucking Egyptian League is more competitive than that steaming pile of garbage called Die Bundesliga.
