Of course it is dishonest! If god said, for example, that humans came from Adam and Eve, but scientists proved that humans evolved from other animals, isn't that being dishonest? Lying? If god, for example, said/implied that the earth is 5000 years old, but scientists proved that it's age is 4.6 billions old, isn't that being dishonest?

It's one thing to not tell us how he did it. It's a totally different thing to give us one account of events and claim authority for it, while the truth turned out to be completely different!

But hasn't it ever occurred to you that Hinduism could afterall be true? The true religion with the true gods? Ones that pre-date your gods by several years? Do you live in ignorance of this possibility?

Greco-Roman polytheism, for example, is well documented. We know a lot about their religious traditions.
When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman empire, 80% of the subjects were still polytheistic and worshiped different Gods. To get people to convert, Christian leaders had to make it easy for the people to keep their traditions. That's why they just incorporated them into the Christian myth.
