Religion encourages good upright behaviour and strong morals along with a strong family life. There is an abundance of benefit in religion.

Religion also encourages bad behaviour:
* The need to "conquer the world" because everyone should believe in "my" preferred God. My religion is better than yours etc. Often even a general intolerance towards people who have (chosen) a different religion or non believers.
* Child abuse in the Catholic Church: only recently have (most of) the abusers started admitting that it is wrong, partly because of public pressure. It used to be A-ok, because, you know, they loved the children so much.
* Inequality even within the same religion. Not only because of gender, but also rank, status, etc.
* ...


And to counter the next argument: whether or not these examples are (due to) what religion was meant for in the 1st place doesn't even matter. They're there, for better or for worse. But you can't just choose the good stuff & choose to ignore that bad things.



Also, since you were the one who came up with the Mt Rushmore thing. Could you explain what this has to with anything? Just curious.

Noooooo. I was just mirroring the absolute certainty with which he was claiming that god exists. Plus, saying that 'god has always existed' is the general retort to the question 'who created god'.

God doesn't need us to worship him.

And I'm just curious why are you so obsessed with denying god with everything you can, using every available youtube atheist info in your arsenal trying to convince everyone to your side of things? I mean what is the main drive? are you guys thinking you are making it a better place, a better world or what?

Why not try to show the bad things of the religion as an organisation and how it can be missused to manipulate people, why not try to search the bad things in religion and try to debate them instead of writing off everything with one easy swoop?

Personally, i think judging the good and bad things about religion is not helpful. Cos religious people and organizations do both things. But none of their acts validate the truth of the concept of god. All the good and bad deeds are done by humans. Not god.

My aim is to question your beliefs in order to get a better understanding of the reasons why you believe it. So far, all the reasons I've heard have been weak. So i try to show how weak the basis if their claims and beliefs are. But they never listen.

I'm not gonna search becasue I have no idea how long it was, but there certainly were some good arguments made in this whole thread espacialy from guys like 3EBlind.

And if you say that your aim is to make people question their beliefs to better understand them then why? Because it seems you wanna make them question them and after considering thme abandom them, at least this is the stance seems to me. So why? Why would you want to take away god from people instead of pointing out the flows of the religion, especialy flows how can it be manipulated. Because I don't see any good in just trying to try to deny others belief. Do you think they will have some sort of science epiphany and live happier lives?

I've read all posts in the thread, especially the ones 3EBlind made, and i don't find them compelling. There is no evidence to support their claim. And its not a fair reflection of the reality that I've noticed.

Why i question their beliefs? Because i think their beliefs are unreasonable and irrational, and hope that by questioning them, they'll see the flaws of their beliefs, or maybe expose the flaws of my disbelief. I still maintain that if i cannot detect god, then I'm gonna live my life believing it is infarcted by god.
