Whether or not the 25M was well spent, there's no way of knowing that yet. It could be.
And he has definitely not been one of our most important players. He has been vital & important in some games. Just like for example Del Piero has been, or even Sissoko. Doesn't mean he's one the most important players overall. He has been way too inconsistent to be considered one the (3) most important players imo.

He is by virtue of the fact that there's only 2 trully vital players in our squad, Chiellini and Buffon everybody else could be replaced, except Alex but he's another case.

First of all, I started writing my comment before you posted, Buck Futter - that wasn't me trying to slam you - just a mere coincidence. I'm multitasking and making some plans for tomorrow, travel plans for the day after, so it took a bit to write my comment.

Beyond that, sorry, when did I say that people weren't allowed to voice their opinions? That's obviously what the message board is for, and why I visit this website at all.

A lot of the criticisms of Diego, that this message board is full of, are simply opposite to my opinion, and now I'm voicing my opinion, and imploring others to show a little bit of freaking patience, in regards to a player I believe is full of quality.

If you haven't noticed, a lot of people here are pretty damn unrealistic, and frankly, somewhat spoiled, given Juventus' tremendous history. Rome wasn't built in a day, and our team got bulldozed/ass raped a few years ago; between our aging stars, and all of the quality that left, the instability of our board, and our carousel of coaches, well, even before this year, this was realistically always going to be a lengthy rebuild.

Which is why it frustrates me when a guy like Diego takes so much criticism. Why does he hold the ball so much longer than, say, Sneijder? Well, maybe he typically holds the ball a bit longer, but IMO it's mostly because the players around him are slow & static; Diego is simply trying to do too much himself. Most of our offensive players generally haven't been performing, and it's understandable.

Meanwhile, Sneijder has Eto'o, Milito, and Pandev running riot up front... support on the sides, a quality defense, etc., blah, blah, blah, like everyone already knows.

Anyway, you disagree with my assessment for Diego as one of our most important players, so I'd have to ask... who do you believe has been more important for us?

I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment that Momo, or our beloved Alex have had a similar impact on our club this season. Diego has been healthier and more consistent than both of those players, IMO.

I mentioned Sissoko & DP because both of them also had some games where they were decisive, while they played like crap in other games. Which for me is exactly the same as Diego. Sometimes decisive, sometimes completely crap.

For me, based on how I judged the individual players in each game, the best one has been Chiellini, even though he hasn't always been great. Second best has been Legrottaglie, to my own surprise I must admit. Marchisio comes third.
For me, Diego is situated somewhere in the middle of the pack. Better than a significant amount of our other players, but also worse than a significant part.

I don't know you Buck Futter, but I read a fair number of posts here, and you're usually pretty objective, and one of the consistently well spoken posters on these boards. That comment about unrealistic options wasn't directed at you, buddy.

I definitely get what you're saying about Momo and DP, and naturally I'll agree that Diego has not played well in every game - he's put up some stinkers, like everyone else on this team. We're full of poor performances this season... top to bottom.

I still believe that he's been more consistent than just about everyone on our team... I just think that people are expecting him to dominate games, and score, score, score. And he can score... but IMO he's really more of a playmaker, and he doesn't have a lot to work with.

I agree that Chiello is our most important player this season; he's had some rough games, his passing is frequently atrocious, but considering how important his presence is amongst our slew of pathetic defenders... well, he's absolutely fundamental.

For me, Legro has put in some good performances - especially during that last match against Fulham - but I just don't consider him to be that important to the squad. He is right now, because we're decimated back there, but generally I don't think he can or has positively impacted the number of games that Diego has.

Marchisio is my favorite Juventus player. I love that you mentioned him here, and if it weren't for his two injury lay offs, and the rust displayed afterwards, I think he'd be right in the running for my top three.

My top three would actually be Chiello, Diego, and then Buffon... in that order.

I just think that a healthy Gigi has such a huge impact on the mental fortitude of a team like ours... and he can really intimidate the other team, as well. My very biased opinion is that he's still the best GK in the world, and outside of a couple games, he's been very solid for us this year. He's definitely not getting a whole lot of goal support, which really amplifies any mistakes he has made...

Anyway, it's 3:05 am here, so I'm off to bed - St. Patty's tomorrow, traveling the next day after the Europa match... need my rest. Have a good night, man.

Let's just disagree about Diego's consistency. Which is basically my main criticism towards him. But that's obviously the case with about 80% percent of our team.

Diego is our most talented player by far. He has better ball control, movement, and technique than anyone else in our side. His passing could be better but he has definitely shown flashes of brilliant playmaking every now and then. I would say he's been consistent. But he hasn't been consistently brilliant, he's been consistently good. I can't remember a game when Diego was absolutely horrible or below averge. He always tries hard and puts in a decent performance at the end of the day.

I'm not convinced that this is the best he could give however. I think he could do better for us but his shortcomings are not his fault at all. As many have mentioned before, our players are just not as good as Inter's to be able to give Diego he room he needs.

Diego just needs players that could open up some space for him. I think Giovinco could do that job well but his case this season has been very unfortunate. I think our primary goal after completely renovating our entire backline with the
exception of Chiellini and maybe Legro, is add some speed to our midfield.

The reason we seem uncreative and uninspired is not because we don't have talent in the squad, but rather we just don't have the right mix of talent yet. Marchisio, Sissoko, and even Melo are all players I wouldn't want to get rid of but their inclusion imposes a very static Juve approach to the game. The ball movement is lethargically slow at times and Diego is always the only player making a real effort trying to create something. I like Marchisio because he adds to our offensive game at times but we need an offensive minded player who could combine well with Diego.

I myself doubt Sneider would have been better than Diego in this Juve. Even if he was better, it wouldn't be that big a difference.

i dare to say that he would be even less effective than diego with us.

without others moving what could sneijder do with the ball ? run circles in the midfield before one of his teammates decides to take a walk in the park and be available for a pass ?

if he had to dribble to hold possession while no one is available for the pass you can clearly see that diego is better in dribbling and holding the ball than sneijder.

sneijder would really play not even one first-touch-pass because there would simply be no one free to receive it, the time the ball gets to sneijder
