Del Piero is definitely not less talented that Cantona and Ronaldo. In his prime, he was a more talented player than both in my book. I guess you are perhaps a little biased being a Man United supporter and all, or perhaps you have been smoking some really good shit lately ;)
i am not a Manchester United supporter. Though I have often enjoyed the way they play, and the teams Ferguson has put together. its true, they currently have rooney, who is one of my favourite players in the world game, but I am juventino, a proud one at that, and have been for many years. Just because I rate a player whose best years were at Manchester United, as better than one of our club legends, it doesn't devalue my support for Juventus...and as for smoking some really good shit...i am afraid not. I am far more of a Drunk these days, though, i have been known, to procure fine, pokey herbs, relax my mind and intensify my senses, sit back and watch a collection of Cantona's best moments, as well as Baggio, Zidane, Cruyffy, Rooney, Vialli, Del Piero...the list goes on.

I love watching wicked football.

Clearly opinions are always going to be divided on what constitutes a true great. And the players I mentioned are not all of the same position. I could have stuck in Ciro, and should have perhaps...and also Baresi. but when i wrote the above I was thinking more of players who excited the Many rather than the few.

Sadly i was not able to witness most games of cantona because i was not so involved with european football at that moment... but I saw most of Zidane´s game (i became juventino because of him) and well even when both (he and DP) are above the avrage footballer....the impact of certain players is what make them different. DP has qualities on and off the pitch that zidane and cantona do not tho.

But nowadays i rate both DP and zizou very equally... one for being a footbal god and the other from being a juventus legend, an example as a captain and a extraordinary footballer.

I know Cantona real well, and dig him, but he was DENITELY not more talented or performed with bigger impact then Ale. He was a player with skill and lots of flair in league who had big lack of such players and wasnt that challenging enough of league strenght wise.

Del Piero met Cantona in CL, and it was clear to the whole world which of the two was more talented and playing better. Cantona is a legend, but he didnt really step up in the big stage, to show he is a great or such, his CL appearances was nothing out of the norm (While Del Piero at that time had 3 seasons of scoring 7-10 goals in CL and showing he is the best around), as in showing he is top top player, same with continental games in his career in overall (his European cups goal record is a measly 5 in his career).

He was a spectacular player to watch, but there is a reason why he isnt mentionned amongst the greats, he didnt really took it to the next level in his career (Actually, funny you would compare the two, because Fergie is a fan of Del Piero, and said he would have been the best player he ever had if he could signed him).

Contona never was and never is a legand. The guy is overhyped + overrated by the man united brainwashed media over there. Watched soo many games for the guy he was good but nothing special. To compare him with del piero is a joke (am not even a del piero's fan).

It's all marketing for united, they need to overhype certain players in their team. Contona==>beckham==>cristiano and am 100% that in a year or two some other guy will come along and they will call him (a legand, the best .....). Same story all over again.

you folks make me chuckle...brainwashing???? if anything, in england there remains and has been in place for many years an anti manchester sentiment, which besets most teams who stay near or at the top of their league, year after year, attracting the best players, winning the most titles, etc etc...

To tell me, or try to tell me, that he is not mentioned as being one of the greats, by whom????? is preposterous. I know literally thousands of fellow supporters in england, hundreds in a manner approaching intimate friendship, and its certainly not as uncommon as you are suggesting that Cantona is referred to as a true great.

And I think Ferguson probably changed his mind about DP as his most coveted and potentially valuable player, after he brough in and nurtured Ronaldo...

But back to my point. Opinions are subjective. your measures may be different to mine. To me Eric Cantona will remain one of my favourite, most highly valued players of history. Yes, i see him as a True Great...

I guess you two have lived in England, around the time of Cantona, and are perfectly positioned to guage his reputation amongst the british supporters?

Either way, it doesn't change my opinion. I love the man, always will do...as i hope to develop such a love for Diego...and in a decade time, maybe longer, if I haven't yet been culled, I will be talking the same way about our brazilian maestro.

I hope so, mate...He is the most special player I have seen in the bianconeri shirt since Zizou first arrived. I mean special as in ability on and off the ball. Not only can he shoot, sense openings for himself and his team-mates, but his ability to hold onto, to caress, to love the ball, and be loved in return, is phenomenal...As he is a trequartista I doubt we will get to see as much of his posession skills as we will his beautiful passing and shooting...Whatever he does, i am sure he will make us all extremely happy, and proud, and finally, appreciative of the much maligned Secco/Blanc/Cobolli gang.

Forza Diego. Forza Juve...

too many members on this site seem to be unable to accept that opinions differ between individuals. There is no OFFICIAL GUIDE TO QUALITY to consult, to confirm or deny how much we can appreciate individual players. To write as if there is such a guide is small minded and useless for a forum in which people express THEIR personal opinions. Nedved may have been that special to you, mate, but to me, no, a different kettle of fish to Zidane and to Diego. To us???the only US I know of on these boards is the US which are threaded together by a mutual devotion to Juventus...Indeed.
