Here's another thing to consider. Why is it that only German teams have expressed interest in him?

Isn't it entirely possible that diego WANTS to go back to Germany?

come on dude thats obvious, all of germany watched him play and are aware of his quality. To them he was their leagues version of Kaka.

Diego wanted to stay, he even said his goal was just the begining, it was these idiots who run our club, who are forcing him out

BERLIN, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Brazilian midfielder Diego is close to signing with 2009 Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg after undergoing a medical check late on Wednesday.

Diego, who joined Juventus last year after three seasons at Werder Bremen, had been a target for coach Steve McClaren’s team for months after the playmaker failed to establish himself in Serie A.

Wolfsburg refused to comment on the possible transfer of the 25-year-old after Diego was seen visiting Wolfsburg team doctors late on Wednesday. The player also made no comment.

Maybe because they were seeing him more regularly.
But it could also be possible that he wants to go back there.

If the interst in him for Real Madrid and Man City wre legitimate as someone else had claimed, then you can't just say that it was because German teams were seeing him more regularly.

Obviously there was scouting done by those two clubs as well.

I'm not saying that he is only worth 15 million. What I'm intimiating is that maybe he wasn't worth the 24.5 million in the first place.

Then again, we don't know what the concrete numbers are
If he was overpaid it was Secco's fault. If we are selling him for peanuts it is Marotta's fault. So the criticism is warranted.

Another source :

WOLFSBURG, Germany (AFP) - The on-off transfer of Brazilian midfielder Diego from Juventus to Wolfsburg is set to be finalised on Thursday after the player underwent a medical at the Bundesliga club.

German sports agency SID, an AFP subsidiary, report the 25-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract after Wednesday night's medical and the transfer is expected to be worth around 15 million euros.

The transfer has been on-off for the last few weeks as Diego looks to move on from Juventus, where he struggled to impress last season after his move from Werder Bremen, where he spent three years.

Diego probably wanted to stay, but if he's pushed out, Germany's the logical option for him. He arguably had a bad first year at Juventus (and Porto), why repeat that experience at Real or something like that? Better to go back to where he was a god.

I don't understand this deal at all though. Ths would make sense if we got another superstar to replace him, but I cannot see which player that would possibly be.

So then, by that logic, then another team should overpay to get him as well, because after all, Juventus apparently overpaid for him in the first place?

To everyone that is lamenting the situation about Diego being sold, and for "only" 15 million, think about these two bullet points for a minute.

#1) This is not the regime that bought him in the first place, so to blast Marotta and Company for selling him for 15 million is unfounded in my opinin. If they were the ones that purchased him last year for the 24.5, and then turned around and sold him, then its more than justifiable.

Which leads me to point number two

#2) For everyone that is hung up on the money, isn't it entirely possible, with the gift of hindsight, that Secco grossly overpaid for him in the first place, and that his value shouldn't have been that high to begin with?
the Diego of Werder Brehmen was worth 25m....the Diego of Juventus....well, we will never know now what he would ahve been capable of in a functioning team.

i am left feeling hugely deflated by this, with the purchase of Diego we showed that we were beginning to think forwards, bringing creativity into the team and moving us (kicking and screaming) into 21st century calcio.....now....well now we will resort to type, play 4-4-2 win thing domestically and struggle as soon as we play European football

Cassono won't come,if he refused Inter why would he chose us? Because we are Juve? I'm starting to hate the fact that our club is controlled by idiots. I thought Agnelli and Marotta were an upgrade from last seasons.....

But the argumet here though, is if that he is truly a superstar, as you call him, then why aren't more teams interessted in him, especially since he can be had for what seems to be pennies on the dollar?

Wouldn't there be larger clubs out there that would be interested in a player of his value? We are talking about a 25 year old trequarista who has shown to have good success in the past.

Let me clarify something. I am not on board with selling Diego if Juve cannot get someone of equal or greater talent that can succeed in a 4-4-2 formation.

I am merely trying to look at all angles. I'm not one who knee jerks and says "Fuck Marotta", or one who drinks the Kool Aid without asking what is in it.

I'm trying to hypothesize the reasoning behind all of this.
