First point at what point did I say a player's value is based solely on nationality? I simply suggested that nationality plays a PART in the value of a player. The value of a player is made up of many different things, Age, Position, Experience, Ability, Records Fitness..... amongst many other factors. ONE OF THOSE FACTORS is Nationality. Maybe it's hard for you to understand context when English isn't your first language? I dunno
Now you're just throwing yourself a life-line. I already said(click) nationality plays a part in transfers, albeit a small one and for young, unproven players, certainly not for 25 year old players who have scored over 80 goals, in both club and national competitions, shined on every possible stage.

If we're talking about a 17 year old Diego playing for Santos and a 17 year old Dzeko playing for Sarajevo, than your point would have some validity. But like this, absolutely not.

You have specifically stated it's funny how Wolfsburg rate a Bosnian Dzeko 40m, and Brazilian Diego 15-20m. What's even more ridiculous, is the fact both players made their name in the same league. Yet one is a Bosnian, the other is Brasilian, so their value can't possibly be the same.

Luka Modric signed for Tottenham after having a great Euro championships and was the star man in a rising Croatian force. He signed for £16 million which is still less than what they paid for the Englishman Bent, who hadn't played at a major championships or established himself in his national team or a top side. If you compare Modric and Bent... Modric should have went for over 30 million if Darren Bent was considered to be worth that. A big part of Bent's inflation is because he's english. Argue that fact all you want but it has been debated and discussed a lot in this country and this is the general consesus. It's become accepted in this country that you pay a premium for english players. Modric's fee, however, was about right. I must state Bosnia are a small nation in footballing terms. Smaller than Croatia, smaller than Ivory Coast. Also at what point did Man Utd actually offer that or is that just rumour?
Still he signed for almost the same amount as Diego did for Juventus? Your logic dictates, that makes Croatia and Brasil on par as far as football terms go? Gee, thanks mate.

Fact of the matter is, even though I rate Modric sky-high, he was overpayed considering the league he hails from. Lucky thing is he had amazing NT performances to boost his value. Again, he was payed so much because an English club bought him, not because Croatia are a world force in football. Wow, that sounds good.

I feel I need to reiterate this, I'm not saying EPL clubs don't overpay for English, they do, but they (obviously) overpay for everyone else.

Well I've read that on BBC, Telegraph, Daily Mail and that was rejected immediatelly by Redknapp.

Another problem you have with context, by stating Diego was a Brazillian number 10 I wasn't talking about him literally being the number 10 for Brazil. You really need to read these things properly. Since he's been at Santos he's had the hype around him, the number 10 hype around him, these type of players suffer intense scrutiny and pressure which is only worse when you are Brazillian. You are built up by hype and then ripped to shreds if you don't cut it.

You have totally bypassed and failed to understand any point i've made. Then in doing so convinced yourself it is infact me who's being idiotic :sergio: You have failed to acknowledge Nationality as a factor in player value and also used this to get away from my main point that Dzeko is over-priced....
This is what you said; "The man who by the very nature of his position and nationality carries extra pressure from being a Brazillian number 10"

I don't know but that sounds like a definitive statement to me. Maybe if you explained yourself further, I wouldn't misunderstand.

Dzeko looks a great player, he has massive potential but the price Wolfsburg are commanding when you consider everything is ridiculous. You seem to be among the small few (is there anyone else here?) that believes he is worth 40 million euros? In the list of all time world record transfer fees that would place him at about 7 or 8. Can you honestly say Dzeko deserves to be in that company of players from what he's acheived so far in football and what Wolfsburg have acheived? You seem to think yes because he's scored 26 league goals and 22 league goals in consecutive seasons for Wolfsburg, some in europe and some for his national team in a valiant but failed attempt to reach the WC. Wolfsburg and Bosnia (who have a number of promising young players now) are a lot stronger than the one man teams you make them out to be. All great acheivments but he has a LONG way to go to be considered alongside the greats of world football
Alen, for the life of me, please put some Dzeko statistics from the last two seasons, from club level and NT. Games played, goals scored. Assists if you can muster as well.

Dzeko is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the 5 best strikers in the world currently. He's not yet world class, as he needs a couple of more seasons in a big club to prove it, but he is 24 years old which absolutely raises his price. He has the form and the numbers behind him to prove it, and I have my eyes to judge. Seriously, if you rate Dzeko 20m there is something very wrong with your observational skills.

I'm not Alen but here you go:

Games played: 17 (11 as sub) all league games.
Goals scored: 8
Assists: 6

Season 2008/2009:

Games played: 32 league games(3 subs), 1 cup game.
Goals scored: 26 (league) 4 (german cup) total = 30 goals.
Assists: 6

Season 2009/2010:

Games played: 34 League games (1 sub) 6 champions league games, 2 cup games
Goals scored: 22 (league), 4 (UCL), 2 (german cup) total = 28
Assists: 7 (league), 2 (german cup) total = 9

So, over the last 3 seasons in total:

Games played: 103 (15 as sub) in all competitions.
Goals scored: 66 (all competitions)
Assists: 21 (all competitions)

So that makes 67 goals in the past two seasons alone. 58 goals on club level and 9 for Bosnia in the qualifiers. And 15 assists for Wolfsburg, don't know the assists for Bosnia. For two seasons. Only.

Ladies and gents, that striker is worth no more than 20m because he's a Bosnian hillbilly and they're not worth much on the football market.

Ah, but getting players from the Premier League is more expensive since the prices there are very inflated, whereas players from the Bundesliga should be cheaper.
Why should they be cheaper?

Many German teams are, arguably, on a more solid financial footing than their English counterparts, so should be able to hold out for more cash when selling players.

It's interesting that Dzeko keeps more or less the same percentage in every level (except the German cup, which shouldn't really count. He's way over 1.00 assists+goal per match there)

In Bundesliga he has 61 goal+assist on 66 matches
In CL he has 4 goal+assist on 6 matches
In Europa League he has 8 goal+assist on 12 matches
In the National team he has 20 goal+assist on 23 matches

And, not to jinx him :) , he plays almost every match. He missed only 2 matches in the last 2 Bundesliga seasons. Last year he didn't miss a single match in Bundesliga, starting 33 and coming in as a sub on 1 match. He played all CL matches, all the matches for Bosnia.
