Juve lead Diego race

Thursday 3 April, 2008

Juventus are in pole position to sign Werder Bremen star Diego this summer, according to the player’s father.

The Brazilian international has set the Bundesliga alight this term and is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest sides, including Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Juve have made no secret of their desire to add the 23-year-old to their ranks as they look to strengthen for a Scudetto push next term and it seems that they could get their man.

“So much has been said and not all of it is true,” Diego’s father Djair de Cunha told Bild.

“But Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco has already been to Bremen and talked to Werder President Klaus Allofs.”

There has been some confusion as Diego initially was quoted as saying that he wanted to join Juventus, but days later allegedly pledged his future to Real Madrid.

While Bremen want to keep hold of their star man, that seems increasingly unlikely as they languish in fifth place in Germany.

“The situation isn’t good enough for Diego,” his father continued. “His dream is to win in Europe.”

Diego is under contract until 2011 and is expected to command a fee of around £14m, which could be a stumbling block for Juventus.

'Juve molto interessata a Diego'

better if we buy one worldclass player than 5 average.... and still we would have 30 mil left.... buy a good cb call back giovinco de ceglie and marchisio....
The purpose of the transfer market is to buy as much talent as we can with the least amount of money possible . Buying one world class player is better than buying 5 average players for a team like Real Madrid for example . They all ready have squad depth and therefore don't need to overcrowd their squad with mediocre talent . Our case is completely different , we have no squad depth , we actually need a good amount of players to be able to compete for a whole season . It's not enough to buy a couple of big names .

De Ceglie should be a bench player , not a starter .
We need more than a few players for next year .

1-RB ( Zebina and Grygera are fine but not good enough )
2-LB
3-DM ( Nocerino is not up to standard . Momo and Zanetti will start , we need two backups ; Marchisio is one of them , we need another .
4-RM ( Camo backup )
5- Neddy replacement , possibly Giovinco . We still need a reserve for that position ( Diego )
6-Striker

We have 50 million to spend on 6 players , If we spend 30 million on Diego , we would have 20 million to spend on 5 players which would mean us probably buying average players . We need quality in every department , not just the OM position .

I agree in principle, but you should scratch the striker part of the list. Its not a priority or an absolute necessity. Neither is a RM a must, just something you could get if you can, AFTER we have dealt with the rest (get a backup striker and rw after you deal with other urgent parts).

Its important to bolster up the defence, because only Chiellini is true starting material, and then the Midfield is very much urgent. In every way, need a Nedved replacement ASAP (Giovinco can be a backup to that), and not top players, but good player to partner Momo in the middle. To make our team tick.

Seems to me like Diego`s father is trying to awake Real so they will finish the deal as soon as possible

about us getting Diego it could be great as Diego Sissoko partnership reminds me of Davids Zidane with proportions ofcourse

yes and that was what we did last year and totally faild..... none of the players we bought is a starter... almiron out on loan...tiago on the bench...andrade at the hospital...iaquinta most of the time on the bench....criscito back to genoa...
diego would have done 100 times more than all of these players....
so u all believe that we have 50 mil to spend... plus the transfers of almiron and tiago (maybe also andrade or marchionni) and maybe a swap deal of one of noce, palla or so....
so we could get diego for 30 mil
buy zapata for 15-20 mil or a decent cb in that amount
get grosso for around 6 mil
and get a new striker for cash plus player (hunterlaar amauri gomez..)
call back giovinco de ceglie and marchisio as backups
maybe get another free agent (isn't flamini for free?)
so that would be around 70 mil...
tiago and almiron hopefully can get us 16 mil or something like that.... so we would have around 65 - 70 mil to spend

We did what we should have done , we just didn't do it right . We were in need of strengthening every single department . Our management did a bad job . We just need to sign the right players this time around .

Diego is strongly influenced by his father. His father is addictive to Real (because of money or fame, or real is a heaven for Brazilians ??? I don't know). So, Diego will never be ours.
