Secco: We Are Observing Diego

Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has admitted that the club are interested in Werder Bremen star Diego, but accepts they will face tough competition for his signature.

The Brazilian playmaker is rated as one of the most promising midfielders in world football and recently expressed a desire to move to Serie A.

“I hope to have the opportunity to play in Italy one day where the football is very famous,” the 22-year-old confessed last month.

Juventus are on the lookout for a top quality midfielder, after the hugely disappointing form of the clubs two summer signings Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron.

The Bianconeri have at times looked rather methodological in midfield, and Coach Claudio Ranieri sees Diego as the man to offer that extra bit of guile and creativity.

“He is strong in the role he plays,” said Secco. “Juventus are observing him, however we know that we are not the only ones who are interested.”

Diego shot to fame in Brazil as a 17-year-old when he formed a devastating partnership at Santos with Real Madrid star Robinho. The duo led the team to the Brazilian Championship in 2002.
