Imagine:

Sissoko - Marchisio

Diego - Giovinco

Pretty sick.
That midfield would simply not function, and btw it's pretty shit anyway. Giovinco and Diego are the same type of players, both playmakers, like to dictate play, and operate behind the strikers. Marchisio is too crap a player to play the holding role in midfield, he is not a great ball winning midfielder nor is he a great passer of the ball, you have to be good at least one of these specialisaties, what is he actually good at?

This would be an ideal midfield, if you are going to play the diamond midfield formation.

--------Sissoko

Xabi-------------Hamsik

---------Diego---

where would giovinco and camo fit? and theres no width in that midfield. no bloody way we are ever signing hamsik and neither do i wish a club like juventus to gamble 30 mill euros on a single player.

To play this formation you need to have great full backs.Who are good going forward.
With Moli and Grygera(Not that he is bad, but still) we can not do that.

Di Livio: Juve buy Diego! Thurday 11 December, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Former Juventus midfield general Angelo Di Livio has pleaded with his former club to sign Werder Bremen star Diego.

The Bianconeri have been repeatedly linked with the Brazilian starlet over the last 18 months, but a divide in the boardroom has stalled a move for his services.

Di Livio, who played for the Old Lady between 1993 and 1999, winning three Scudetti, believes the former Santos and Porto youngster would fit right into the club's 4-4-2 system.

“When I played for Juventus we played a 4-4-2 and Zinedine Zidane's arrival was decisive,” said Di Livio. “He used to play in an advanced role but he used to come back and defend also.

"[Marcello] Lippi was good as he understood the new system had enormous potential. Sacrifices were made and I think [Mauro] Camoranesi could still do the same job if Diego arrives.

"I like this Juve side and I think Diego could be a replacement for [Pavel] Nedved. Any system can be played if the players are intelligent enough.

"This team reminds me of my Bianconeri. They have a great spirit and I don't think there would be any problems if Diego arrives."

Diego has scored 12 goals in 12 appearances for Werder Bremen this season, but the German side are struggling in the Bundesliga and currently lie 10th.

In a recent interview with Tuttosport, the Bremen star expressed the honour of having one of Europe’s top clubs after him.

“It is gratifying to know that a club such as Juventus is interested in you, but at the moment I have other things to think about,” Diego said.

“So at this point in time, rather than saying 'no thanks’, a response of 'thanks for the invitation, we will speak again at the end of the season’ is a little more suitable,” he added.

The Brazilian midfielder has certainly not closed the door on a move away from the German club, and the Bundesliga itself, as he has expressed his admiration for the Serie A in recent times.

“My fellow national team players always speak highly of the Serie A, and so it would be great to play there one day,” he concluded.

The only way I can see Diego fitting in, would be if he was willing to fill in at LM when we don't have the ball.

We would also need to get a very good LB to get forward and maintain width on the left side when Diego goes into more central areas.

When in possession:

Buffon

Grygera-Legrottaglie-Chiellini---------

Camoranesi-Sissoko-Poulsen-Left Back

Diego

Trezeguet-Del Piero

When not in possession:

Buffon

Grygera-Legrottaglie-Chiellini-Left Back

Camoranesi-Sissoko-Poulsen-Diego

Del Piero

Trezeguet.

This is pretty much sticking to our beloved 4-4-2, it is just giving Diego the freedom to make it a 4-3-1-2 when we have possession.

Unfortunately, what Lippi understands is beyond Ranieri.

Camoranesi already performed a similar role when Nedved was used in the center, so Di Livio knows what he's talking about.

IMO it could work if the LB is defensive so he can help out on Diego's lack of defensive awareness and the RB should be an attacking RB.

I think it would maintain the balance better if the RB is quite defensive, that way the formation almost changes to a 3-4-1-2 when we have the ball.

I reckon it could work with a LB who isn't great at defending, providing either Sissoko or Poulsen is focused on covering that side of the pitch, but it would be better if the LB was good defensively..

Lets resurrect Torricelli and Pessotto :)

Btw, i think it will take more than a Di Livio comment to convince CR to tell Secco to move for Diego ...
