Conte hasn’t asked for Drogba

Juventus boss Antonio Conte is surprised by transfer links with Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba.

The former Chelsea player, currently at Shanghai Shenhua, is being linked with a January move to Turin to strengthen a side who are set to face Celtic in the last 16 of the Champions League.

“I don’t know why Drogba’s name is being mentioned,” Conte said in an interview with Tuttosport on Monday.

“Nobody has talked to me about him and I haven’t asked for him either…

“Saying that, we could do with a world class player who has won the Champions League. But we know what we need and how to proceed.

“We are aware that we don’t have €50m to spend. But, if we plan ahead, we can buy champions for €35m-€40m.”

Conte has been a massive success since being handed the Juventus job in the summer of 2011, having won the Scudetto at the first attempt.

“Juventus is a dream for me and I hope this journey is a long one,” he continued. “I’ll work abroad after Juve.

“I’d also like to take charge of the Italian national side, but that is a successive step.”
What the hell is the point of these interviews? Conte will never say sth that will put him into direct confrontation with our BoD and Agnelli.
Plus he loves this club too much to say sth that makes the relationship shaky. So he just follows their game, even if it contrasts what he wants.
I bet that Marotta has said to him: "look mister, I'm taking care of this. I AM looking for a cheap ass "il Top Player". And believe me, if you wait long enough, eventually some opportunity will come up. In the mean time you just carry on like this, putting everyone, including yourself, through hell." and then gives Conte that grin of his.

Lippi: 'Milan should sign Drogba'
By Football Italia staff

Marcello Lippi has recently faced Didier Drogba in China and urged Milan to make him an offer, as “he’d form a great partnership” with Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Ivory Coast international is currently training with Chelsea during the close season and could well leave Shanghai Shenhua.

“If Robinho and Alexandre Pato really are leaving Milan, then I’d see Drogba doing better for the Rossoneri than Juventus,” Lippi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He played against my Guangzhou Evergrande recently and is still a beast. He really makes the difference on the field.

“Drogba would be a precious addition to the squad both in Serie A and the Champions League. In technical terms, he’d form a great partnership with El Shaarawy.”

However, as with the earlier interest from Juventus, Lippi does see one rather large obstacle.

“He didn’t choose to go to China by following his heart or making a footballing decision. It was purely for the money, as he earns €1m per month. Do you think he’d agree to halve his wages to come and play in Italy? I have my doubts.”

Lippi is still keeping a close eye on Serie A football from China and has been thoroughly impressed with Milan’s new star.

“El Shaarawy reminds me of Alessandro Del Piero. They both love to start from the left and cut in to seek goals with curling shots. He hasn’t got Del Piero’s quality yet, but is growing and could be even more explosive in attack.

“Juventus are the strongest side in Serie A. They might have a few problems in February when the Champions League commitments begin again, but with Antonio Conte they have rediscovered that attacking fury.

“This side could be compared to my Juve, but also those of Giovanni Trapattoni and Fabio Capello.”

:agree: Let's just hate for the sake of hating. It's alright to be cynical, but no need to be blinded by hatred.

What have you done for your country recently? At least he is doing something right to boost his image/profile, even if the underlying reasons for doing so are unclear ;)

I don't hate him. And I would have liked the signing. I'm just saying that because he has a charity doesn't mean he didn't move to China for financial means..

I'm sure he did, and there is nothing wrong with that. Why settle for less when you can make more?

Looking out for his best interests and wanting to secure his and his family's financial future hardly constitutes being a gold digger.

Technically, if someone is willing to pay for your services, and you are willing to accept their offer, then it's not gold digging. It's not as if he whored himself to clubs in China, Russia, or the Arab world.
