DESCHAMPS JOINS DOMENECH DETRACTORS

Juventus coach Didier Deschamps has slammed France boss Raymond Domenech over his treatment of David Trezeguet - echoing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's criticism.

Trezeguet has been dropped for Les Bleus' double-header against Lithuania and Austria.

Striker Trezeguet, who plays for Juve in Serie B, started for France in their 1-0 defeat by Argentina at the start of February.

But he does not figure in Domenech's latest squad, which includes seven forwards - even without the injured Thierry Henry and Louis Saha.

Wenger was engaged in a public spat with Domenech over the treatment of Henry, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

Trezeguet claims he has not spoken to Domenech since his snub, and Deschamps, the former France captain, does not believe his player has been treated fairly.

"Each national-team coach clearly has the right to take whichever player he wants," he said.

"But I don't know the reasons which pushed him not to call up David Trezeguet.

"He can't say he is not choosing a player because he plays in Serie B and that he hasn't adapted to the level the national team play at. It is an offence to Juventus and the player.

"Trezeguet is at the same level today as he was when he was in Serie A. Serie B is a hard league, and of a very high standard.

"The likes of (Gianluigi) Buffon, (Mauro) Camoranesi and (Alessandro) Del Piero continue to be picked for the Italy squad.

"Domenech said at the start of the season that the fact we are playing in Serie B does not reduce the chances of David being picked for Les Bleus. He has changed his opinion.

"I hope there will not be negative repercussions in (Trezeguet's) hea
d."

Trezeguet, who has scored 34 times in 69 games for Les Bleus, told Italian newspaper La Stampa at the weekend: "There has been no agreement with Raymond Domenech regarding this non-selection.

"I think I deserve respect. As do Juve and my team-m
ates."

Wenger is disappointed the France coach does not call him to monitor the progress of the Gunners' Les Bleus contingent.

"The real problem is the lack of communication," Wenger said last week. "The national coach never calls me.

"Is it too much to have a phone call to get news about a player we see every day? The other national coaches contact me, we talk. The only one who never calls is Domenech
."

Deschamps backed up Wenger's claims by adding: "He is the only national-team boss who never calls coaches of the clubs.

"Wenger and (Lyon coach) Houllier have already expressed the same opinion as me.

"Roberto Donadoni, for example, still calls me before picking his squad for Italy games, so he knows how the players he has chosen are doing
."

France play Lithuania in Kaunas in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday, before taking on Austria in a friendly four days later.

domenech really is a moron, i recall his antics during the summer for the selection of the squad. he has a problem when it comes to selection and substitutions and until he is replaced france will never be able to utilize all the full capability of the talent their NT possesses.

i'm glad Deschamps stuck up for trez in this down time. i'm not too sure about wengers accusations about domenech but its still a factor to consider.

no trez and no henry would leave kats like saha, cisse, etc. up front which isn't really comforting.

Key point there. Domenech has really gone too far, if I were Trez I'd definetly consider leaving the NT as long as he is in charge.
