David Trezeguet insists he is willing to forego Champions League football to stay with Juventus, but admits he was 'forced’ to play in Serie B.
I have another year on my contract and intend to respect it,:confused:assured the Frenchman in the 'Gazzetta dello Sport’s Saturday magazine 'Sportweek.’
The media has taken it as a given since the summer that the World and European Champion was hoping to leave Turin.
However, he remained even in Serie B and claims the situation will remain the same if they are promoted.
“I never said I was leaving. At the start of the season I was asked if I was disappointed not to be playing Champions League football.
“I answered that effectively it was a problem because we had earned the right to enter that competition on the field of play. It was taken away from us for reasons that had nothing to do with the team.”
The club has warned that a Scudetto push will be very unlikely for at least a couple of years, although they could aim for a top four finish after the signing of Zdenek Grygera and Hasan Salihamidzic.
“The newspapers wrote that 'Trezeguet wants to play in the Champions League, therefore he will leave Juve.’ It’s not true.
“For me, even with a second season out of Europe, what counts more is the rapport with my teammates and they have asked me to stay next year. This is a club with 106 years of history behind it, that cannot be torn down by one season in Serie B.”
However, Trezeguet did confess to 'Sportweek’ that his decision to remain in Turin after the Calciopoli scandal wasn’t entirely an autonomous one.
“I was disappointed that I wasn’t given the same choices as those who left. The club considered me irreplaceable and I took that as a sign of respect, but I have been here for seven years and thought I could have more of a say in my future.”
Several of the world class players were sold in the summer when it became clear the Bianconeri would be either demoted or given a heavy points penalty.
Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Patrick Vieira and Emerson were some of the top stars who walked away, while others like Pavel Nedved, Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon opted to stay.
“All I received was a phone call telling me to turn up to pre-season training on August 10. Basically, it wasn’t my choice to remain in Serie B.”

Jesus, people are never really satisfied, not to mention greedy.. The guy basically commited his future to a Serie B club, at the peak of his career, and now everyone is concerned about not cashing out on him after next season.

If he says he will stay, it's natural he'll extend his contract, but even if he doesn't he has every right to it as he has sacrificed a lot for these colours. Buffon, DP, Nedved and Trezeguet have the right to do whatever they want with their careers in the future, they have all my respect and I can only hope they all retire as Juventini.

i think it would make sense to cash in on him rather than letting him leave on a free, but thats not to mean that i dont have respect for what he has done and what he has given to our club. I just dont understand whether he is saying he will stay for next season or he will stay for good

So am I. We just need to convince David and Gigi that next season represents a glorious challenge and that there is light, BRIGHT light, at the end of the tunnel if we achieve qualification for the CL.

Next season is the big one. If we get straight back into the champions league we will be back to competing financially with the top teams in europe and as such Trez and Gigi will stay indefinitely.

I agree with you. We must spend big. Yes I know that we took a financial hit because of the relegation and lack of CL. But I think that the manegment and directors should try ad pressure the Agnelli Family to pump a bit more money into backing the club for next season. I don't care if it has to go as far as begging them for it. Alot depends on up making key major signings to have immediate impact upon our return next season to challenege for the title and prove that we are competitive.

The future of Juve for the next 4-5 seasons really rests on how well our management can handle the squad in the summer. Let's pray they are up to the task.

I think that he've never scored outside the box before..
He has, and I can see two goals in particular for Juve in my head but I don't remember who it was against. Actually, I think both of them are from 2001.

I wanted to answer "his second goal in the away game at Sampdoria in 2004" but I just checked it and he was inside. I had to check his 2001 goal at Celtic as well. There aren't many of them, but he has a couple for Juve. Remember one he flicks on in the air, he actually manages to shoot the ball into the top corner while still in the air, and the cross comes from behind. Just can't remember the freaking opponent :(

By the way, how was his famous goal for Monaco at Old Trafford in 1997? It was a pearler but I can't remember if it was inside or outside the box.

Good question btw, Jack

I'm 99% positive this is his first goal for Juve outside the box. I have all his goals from Juve and when I get home I'll double check them all to make sure. There were a few close ones but this is I believe the first he scored outside the box. I can't say for sure for the rest of his clubs but I can make sure about Juve.

BTW, it was a freaking great shot and left footed as well.
