Caldara sale blocks Rugani

Juventus will hold on to Chelsea target Daniele Rugani if they give Mattia Caldara to Milan, reports in Italy say.

The Bianconeri are thought to be close to a deal to bring Leonardo Bonucci back to Turin, which would involve sending Caldara to San Siro.

According to SportMediaset, that would put the brakes on any negotiation with Chelsea for Rugani, as Juve are not willing to lose two young centre-backs.

The Blues had wanted to reunited Rugani with his former Empoli Coach Maurizio Sarri, but if Caldara to Milan goes through it appears that won’t be possible.

He's better than Caldara. Glad we shipped that bum instead. Can't play in a back 4 so useless for us.
Fun fact.

One has played in 46 matches the past 2 years in a 3 and 4 man backline for Juve.

One has played in a 3 man backline for Atalanta for the past 2 years.

Both are the same age. (Actually Rugani is a couple of months younger)

Part of the reason people here are overrating Caldara so much is because of his 7 goal season in 16-17.

Most have hardly watched him play, but see he scored 10 goals in 2 years.

no idea actually he scored that man. i know he is good in the box on corners, for example. I like his style of defending tho. Rugani's too. They have the artistic touch which goes perfect with the chiellini/montero type.

Agent: Rugani unsellable for Juve
By Football Italia staff

Daniele Rugani’s agent has claimed that the defender is unsellable for Juventus, who have 'rejected all kinds of offers’.

Rugani had been heavily tipped to follow his Empoli mentor Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea, but the defender was ultimately kept ahead of Mattia Caldara, who was sacrificed for Leonardo Bonucci.

“Juventus have no desire to sell him, not even for a high price which, among other things, no-one in Italy could afford,” Davide Torchia told RMC Sport.

“However, the player has never asked to leave. Only when a very important offer arrives is it normal to listen, but Juventus have rejected all kinds of offers to keep him in Turin.

“Chelsea made a really big bid, which was close to being unthinkable for me, but Juventus didn’t relent.

“Khedira played only 10 more games than Daniele last season. I think Rugani can play even more this season.”

Chelsea target set to receive pay rise at Juventus

08 August at 22:45
After Mattia Caldara completed his transfer to AC Milan, reports suggest that Daniele Rugani will renew his contract with Juventus, rather than moving to Chelsea.

As reported by Corriere Dello Sport, Juventus are ready to offer the 24-year-old defender a significant pay rise. In fact, the Bianconeri are willing to hand Rugani €1.2m more annually, making it €3m per year in total.

This is Juventus plan to try and convince him to stay, although a move is not on the cards this summer. Chelsea were interested in his services, but it seems the high demand of nearly €60m from Juventus scared them off in the end.

Furthermore, with Mattia Caldara leaving for Milan in a swap deal for Bonucci, Juventus wouldn't want to deprive themselves of yet another talented centre-back, especially Rugani, who has been praised by many defensive legends.
