I give the transfer market a 5.5.

Positives:

- The Italian market was avoided.
- The purchases were made at good prices and formulas.
- The sale of Weah was good in terms of formula and price.
- PSG's absurd demands for KM were not accepted.
- The sale of Savona was good at price.
- The attack is very good.

Negatives:

- A much-needed RB was not signed.
- Chico's deal was unnecessarily long, and in the end, no discount was obtained.
- The sale of Mbangula was cheap.
- The sale of Vlahovic and McK was not achieved, and they could now leave for free.
- The defense, in my opinion, is fragile. I would have preferred a signing in that area. Akanji would have been ideal.
- I'm not happy with Nico's formula. A loan whose purchase obligation depends on the number of matches he's going to play can be easily reversed against us. If Atlético is smart, they'll simply sit him down before the last match of the deal is reached and force us to renegotiate the price of a possible sale or send him back.
- Given the current state of the team, if Bremer, Cambiasso, Thuram, or Joao Mario get injured (God Forbid) , we either don't have the replacements or the ones we have are far inferior in quality.

I will rate this tomorrow when it is officially over. I think the key issue with the team remains the defence. While Kelly has shown some promise in the first 2 games, I think its a stretch to rely on him as a starter at a club like Juventus. I think our defence is the key problem area for us this season. If we had a Califiori type of player at LCB, this team would be on another level.

Other thing that could have been done is to do a dry loan for Adzic to another mid table Serie A team in exchange for a dependable right wing back rotational player.

Other than that, Comoli I think did well in ensuring that we are better off financially while putting together a rather exciting list of attacking players. It remains to be seen how Tudor can create balance in this team.

6/10

-Focused on improving our attack which needed the most attention
-Resisted overpaying for anybody unlike every predecessor since Marotta
-Didn't sell off any world-class young players to help him cook the books*
-Didn't feed the media frenzy
-Got rid of some wasters

However

-Key position (wingback) unacceptably thin. Massive failure
-CB also thin. 6 players for 3 spots and one of them will be playing RWB while another is still injured. Why are Rouhi and Facundo leaving then?
-Took far too much time finalising (or failing to finalise) deals for players who were already with us last year
-Many wasters still here
-I don't like the last-minute style. Needs to plan things far better

Everybody was pleased after last summer and it all went sour. This year we've probably been smarter in our approach but it feels like we've not made a step upwards on paper. We're relying on Bremer returning to his top level and DiGreg, Locatelli, Thuram, Vlahovic and Connie all making a big improvement from last season. I suppose that's fair, but Zhegrova, Openda, Mario and David feel like the standard we were at last year rather than where we want to be in 3 years' time.

*edit: forgot about Mbangula. He wasn't exactly Marc Overmars but the fee was low. Not sure we needed to sell and replace him tbh

I liken this transfer window to be very much like Manchester United transfer window. We brought in some attacking options. Great they may or may not work out. David doesn’t look great thus far. Not sure what Openda is gonna be like and we are relying on a player we want to sell. Meanwhile, we are still lacking at probably our biggest issue over the past several years which we have not addressed once again which is the central midfield we like creativity it’s completely obvious. Locatelli is not working. Koopmeiners is not working. And then we’re also playing a system that we’re not suited for because we do not have world class wingbacks. So yeah even our our transfer window looks like United. Our system looks like Manchester United and I think our disappointment is gonna be like Manchester United.

So basically one spot because Koop and Loca are each others competition. It was far from our biggest issue btw but it certainly ain't a strength either. I'd say it's on the list for next summer mercato. That and the defence.

Solid 6.

Pros:
Sporting wise we fixed our attack (finally some options) and financially we didn't risk too much which is always welcome in our current situation. Plus setting some clear lines for prices, both buying and selling which was long overdue.

Cons:
Well; missing an extra RB and missing out on Kolo ofc 'though it's understandable why we balked at the cost... We bought Zhegrova & Openda at the same price (salary and transfer combined). Also not being able to sell Vlahovic but he was being a greedy dick probably... Some rumours about him extending but I'd consider that a miracle at this stage.
And almost forgot but it started with missing out on Conte tbh... Then we pulled back and chose the careful approach, I guess.

Let the pitch do the talking now...

Hard to evaluate at this point. Depends on how the new signings will fit. In the end, it all comes down to results. Last year most of us were happy and it turned out to be a total bust.

I think CM should have been a priority since we do not have a midfielder with a sharp eye for a pass. I'd give Comolli 6/10 for now. Zhegrova, Openda are good signings. David is decent backup. Joao Mario seems to be good enough as well based on few initial games. They are not world beaters but we are far from that as a team. He got rid of Nico and Luiz, which is positive. Correcting Giuntolli's mistakes over one summer was not easy. Few more remain to deal with in the next transfer window.

I think we will crash out early in the CL, I have 0 expectations that we will be able to beat strong sides, but we should do fine in Serie A. It's up to Tudor now to make a team and there is still a major concern if he is up for the task despite meeting objective last season.

It’s actually shocking what a difference an experienced director makes. Giuntoli would have given into PSGs demands, kinda like he did with Koop last year. Seemingly every deal this summer has been on his terms. We’ll see what moves work out and what don’t, but at least we don’t have a pushover in charge anymore.

Mercato and Comolli note for the mercato

4/10.

I am giving this note because of several reasons.

Negative

Coach fiasco in the beginning

It was a really depressing summer overall. Day by day reading million names and getting nothing was really frustrating.

Waiting for the last day to bring 2 players who we needed maybe 2 months ago.

Not being able to solve The Vlahovic situation.

Not bringing Kolo Muani

Not bringing RWB.

Selling Savona.

Keeping Kostic

Not selling Kelly or Gatti and not bringing Leoni or another better player in the back to replace them.

Not bringing a Midfield.

Positive

Bringing Openda Zhegrova and David for reasonable money.

Not selling or buying from Serie A.

Fucking off Napoli (i don't believe it but feels good if true)

Selling Weah, Nico and Douglas Luis for reasonable money.

Showing more character than his predecessors when negotiating and not bending to anyone.

Not overspending.

I will give him another chance next year to see if we will be able to sell and Get rid of more deadwood, and replace them with decent players.

Next season we must sell

Gatti
Milik
Vlahovic( do not renew)
Mckennie
Kelly
Rugani
Cambiasso
Kostic

and replace them once and for all.

I hate the fact that this club is selling it's youngsters. I hope from next summer we will stop doing that and try to keep them.

in the last 2-3 years we managed to sell

Soule
Mbangula
Hujjisen
De Winter
Hasa
Savona
Illing Junior
Barrenechea.

this is not acceptable. I am ok to sell one or two, obviously we cannot keep all of them but, we must start believing more on the youth and stop giving chances to players like Kostic and Gatti.

I hope Tudor will do his part and will keep this team steady and not collapse after 2 bad results one after another, something that happened last 4-5 years.

To be fair the only potential wc player from that list is Hujisen.

Soule is ok, but we got a good deal from his sale.

Mbangula - we indeed sold him for a low amount, but I doubt he will turn out better than average. Also, he chose a bad club for improving.

The rest are meh and have no place in a team like Juventus.

Barrenechea and De Winter are good enough imo, but we’re talking about squad players. Huijsen was really the only true mistake. I remember we were talking on here after the Calafiori move collapsed about just trusting him but no that would’ve been too easy and cheap. Btw I feel the same way about Pedro Felipe, not saying he will be on Huijsens level, I dont think he will, but he will be a top flight player. Only question is for who.

Any idea how much we gained in Plusvalenza this transfer period? And how much we had in results the last 3 years? Because FFP looks at the 3 year average right?

Hope we quit selling players for FFP purposes and finally can start with keeping our players instead of having to sell them for plusvalenza. Let's face it we sold a lot of those last seasons. Mbangula, Soule, Huijsen and Savona just to name a few.

Once that Vlahovic deal runs off it should be easier to operate on transfer market.
We will have nice wage structure too with David on 6m +2m bonuses net and Bremer on 5m+1m bonuses as our highest earners.
Ofc Yildiz should be given at least 5m net in his contract and Thuram 4m +, but it still wont be that bad. Should be around 100m gross for first team wages, while currently we pay around 120m.
