I haven't really watched the replay after what they showed on tv, and maybe it's not that important, but in real time, did anybody else think that was a clear penalty on Donnarumma?
I thought he literally went through Musiala's legs to get to the ball. No different than if a defender tries to make a play on the ball and goes through the back of a players legs first, it's always a foul.

Worst one I ever saw, and I recommend not watching it or looking at pictures, was David Busst against Man Utd back in the 90s. Horrific. His got infected and ended his career. I met him a couple of times in the following years and his leg looked like a shark bit it.
These days it's a recoverable injury, but much depends on how clean the break is and whether infection can be avoided. I'd say a bad ACL injury is maybe worse. Some players returned to their former level, but others struggled or had to manage injuries for the rest of their careers.

I think it's definitely a penalty by the letter of the law, but I also give Donnarumma the benefit of the doubt on this play, as he was committing to the ball before Musiala was in a direct path between him and the ball. I also think Musiala has to do a better job of protecting himself there, as it almost feels like he was trying to shield off Donnarumma.

Yeah I agree. Just an unfortunate play where I'm sure everyone involved could have done something different to change the outcome --- but that's football.
Regardless, it sounds like a 5-6 month injury and he'll be back in 2026. When you try to use some perspective after this past week, it's really not that bad. And hopefully Musiala, especially with his good buddy Alphonso Davies also working his way back from a serious injury, can see it from that perspective and not get too down.
He'll probably be back with Bayern in good position in the Champions League and the Bundesliga, with a chance to finish the season out strong.
