Ronaldo won that Nations Cup with Portugal, that must count for something and against VVD in the final. It's clear that Ronaldo will struggle to get these awards now he left Real. Modric, Marcelo and Ramos in the best 11 but no Man City players? Bullshit organisation. Messi disgraced himself in the Copa America and got banned.

I think Messi deserves it but if he won this year then surely Ronaldo should’ve won last year. Ronaldo’s 17/18 campaign was better and more successful than Messi’s 18/19 campaign yet he still lost to modric who was only good for 2-3 games at the World Cup and probably wasn’t in Madrid’s top 3 performers that season.

Winning a cup with a mediocre Portugal team is a special achievement, and they beat Holland who recently slapped Germany in the qualifiers. Messi had great numbers but La Liga was no contest for them last season, he did nothing in the Copa. If only the league performance counts then Man City players have to be there, they had a ridiculous season with a domestic treble. Giving Modric the award was a slap in the face for Ronaldo because he left.

Mediocre Portugal? To me, they’re one of the best teams in Europe.

Great players, they get some titles but mediocre coach. At least for the team he has at his disposal he plays too conservative.

That squad is definitely one of the top-5 in world.

Right, it's a pity they don't reach a WC semi-final at least.

The biggest joke was Real Madrid players being in the best 11, but when it's based on voting, anything can happen. Media and national team captains/coaches + 25% of the votes being from the general public, you can have all their favourite players in there, just like it happened.

I'v lost my interest to any individual awards on any sports. There shouldn't be any voting based awards and it would be good enough to have season top scorer, goaltender with most clean sheets and defenders with most clean sheets alongside with couple others and that's it.

Squad wise you have Spain, France, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil are all better, so is Argentina but the chances of them beating Portugal are slim. Ronaldo galvanises the team, elevates them and that makes them play above their abilities. He even scores free kicks for them! Messi has the opposite effect on Argentina. I'll always consider Portugal a dark horse because they've won titles, the likes of France and Spain will always be favourites though.

The Portugal squad is good but I wouldn’t say great. They have some issues at the back with a 70 year old Pepe still being their best defender. The next best is a decent at best youngster in Ruben Diaz and a semi-retired Jose Fonte.
