Modric, Marcelo and Ramos.

I think Van Dijk had a better year. With all the goals Messi scored he could not prevent his team from total collapse in CL, and then made that stupid statement after Copa America exit.

Statistically Messi was better, but most of Messi's goals were against minnows. He failed in most of the big games he played, unlike Van Dyke, so I agree with you.

I do think he is the best but he didnt deserve it.
1. Van Dijk - won the CL + was instrumental + got to Nation final
Messi only won La Liga
2. Ronaldo won the same as Messi as one won in Spain and the other in Italy but Ronaldo also won with Portugal...
3. Messi - Great season but still failed to win the big one

Actually Id even put Alisson as second

Messi deserves it. Unless you have someone who won a treble or something, it has to go to Messi/Ronaldo when they hit these numbers. And sadly Ronaldo didn't show up this past year. 28 goals last season compared to Messi's 51. He'll need the CL and/Or Euro 2020 if he wants to win the next 'The Best' because I think he's headed to another moderate 25-30 goals season. Can't see Messi not hitting another 50.

Stat-padding is so much easier in La Liga though. During the season Barca crush their opponents 5-0 or 4-0 quite often. Messi scores goals for fun, just like CR7 used to do. Obviously, due to the style of play it's hard to do that in Italy. So, just like you said winning trophies is the only way that can help Ronaldo win those individual awards.

It's not controversial, VVD had better team success and standout year, but Messi had stronger individual performance than him and Ronaldo with 51 goals and 22 assists (there stats used to allways be close but that season not so much).

We all expect the Dutch dude to take it all due to CL, but its hardly controversial that NT captains, coaches or journalists think one of the best attackers ever is better then a CB.

Fuck the tax evading garden gnome cunt. It's obviously an individual award, but team accomplishments should count. Messi was pathetic for Argentina, yet again, and failed to win the CL. Yes, he scored and assisted a lot last season, but he doesn't deserve the award - neither does CR7 for that matter.

Lineker has to be right up there as the most annoying football personality.
He's a fucking dumb cunt, that's for sure.
