I saw a clip once of a PL scout talking about how they evaluate strikers. Basically if a player has a high conversion rate on limited chances during a season it most likely is a fluke season/ they are over-performing. Strikers creating or having a lot of chances shows a consistency in the player's movement and understanding of the game, regardless of the conversion rate.

A good example is Dzeko who missed a lot of sitters his first season in Roma, but his movement was so good he would continue to create chances and in his 2nd season he turned it around.

Ronaldo has always wasted a lot, but his movement is so insanely good he will get enough to score. In Real he got 8-10 chances a game, an attack with much more creativity than ours, and he scored 2-3. In Juve he gets 4 and scores 1. Very few players have the ability to even get to as many chances as Ronaldo.

So basically we can rely on a Higuain type, who is a better pure finisher but doesn't have the athleticism and understanding to create as many chances. If he gets 1 or 2 chances and doesn't score he's most likely done for the game. Or you can chose a Cr7 who if he misses those 1 or 2, will get 3 more chances and still win you the game.
It's pretty accurate to that strikers are looking the chances. It's an easy math to say other had 25 goals and 100 chances and other guy had 45 goals and 300 chances, that latter was more succesful. If you wanna have the highest conversion rate, just take the guaranteed shots.

I think Ronaldo and anybody who scores tons of goal is kind of "wasteful". You have the name, you will be kept way better than that 15 goal scorer. If you're trying to score a header in the box example while being surrounded by 2-3 other players, while being kicked, scratched, people are trying to shake your balance and so on and if you somehow make yourself available after all of that, that chance isn't "easy" as when you would be that 15 goal scorer because you'd have way more time and space to do things. That's one of the things why that conversion rate is almost always higher on those "back up" strikers than the actual ones.

Exactly this, Ronaldo did miss a lot of chances this season, but only a player of his profile can even get as many chances. It's the same style as Immobile or Cavani, sometimes fans shit on them for missing chances, but only with their movement do those chances exist.

Luckily Ronaldo is also a good finisher, and incredibly clutch. His level increases with the occasion. Another bello di notte as Boniek, but on a different level.

Imagine him with a maestro like KDB feeding him. Guaranteed 40-50 league goals. P.S. can’t believe how many chances Jesus is missing in this video, and to think we were linked to him.

In the end of the day, is natural for al goalscorers to miss chances and even sitters. Thats part of their job.

People sometimes believe that they simply CANNOT misss, ever- and thats surreal.

Two words: Marcelo Salas.
Although I don't regret not signing him back then because he definitely would have left after Calciopoli.
There would be no Calciopoli if CR was here... even Italians aren't crazy enough to relegate the GOAT :D

Perhaps he'll get about 45-60mins in each of the next few games depending on how they go, which is not much of a surprise though, it was to be expected he won't let that capocanniere accolade just slide by without putting up a fight while there's still a chance.

Not so sure it's a good idea but it is somewhat understandable.

He still needs to play some to stay sharp. We all know how rough the restart was on players so sitting them for every game until Lyon is stupid.

Doesn't need to play 90 mins but should still play at least 30-45 mins a match until Lyon.

I think since Lazio’s game happens first, he’ll be in the squad to play just incase Immobile doesn’t build on his tally (he’s only 3 behind with 2 games left). If Immobile adds to his tally, it would make it very hard for him to catch up so by that time he’ll know not to play and probably end up just being an unused sub (or at best coming on late in the game). That’s my theory anyway.

Indeed, the way we will handle the rotation and rest of key players atm is sure going to count a lot in how the next few weeks will go.
