DP is our all time top scorer, top appearence maker, most decorated, longest serving captain, led us out of Serie B.

He should be there. But i understand why they put Scirea and Platini -- the retro feel.
Del Piero needs to be recognised. Either a silhouette or statue.

And people say R9 is better
A healthy commited and highly motivated R9 in R7"s much poorer era could of done just aswell.

R9 came from the golden era and won it all. He had more raw talent but R7 surpassed him in what he achieved (ex the world cups) through professionalism and hard work.

Thats what usually separates most and highest level. There are lots of talents but the best work harder when at the top and the rest stop working as hard

It's funny how people think this era is poorer than previous ones. Believe me, bring back all the legends from defenders to forwards and let them play in today's high intensity football and you'd be surprised. Conversely, take the best of this era and let them play in 80s and 90s and they will set the world alight.

The only argument you can make for the likes of Brazilian Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele etc to be GOATs, is by judging their careers based on influence in their era rather than direct comparison with today's footballers skillset.

Well yea obviously the people on here that argue that there has ever been a player anywhere near the quality of a Ronaldo or Messi are by far the most delusional crowd on this forum.

like a modern Messi wouldn't have scored thousands of goals in an era when players had never heard of a fitness regiment and teams played with five forwards.

And a bunch of 5'5, chubby smokers are going to physically bully Ronaldo out of a game? :howler:

I agree but then there are players like R9, Best, Ronaldhino, Gascoigne, Adriano etc who get to the top on pure talent and skill.
Didn't see Best or Gascoigne but its worth mentioning that none of the Brazilians you mentioned had much of a top level career beyond their late 20s.

CR7 is 33 and the best player in the world.

I agree that Messi and Ronaldo would be up there with the best in any era i still feel that the standard of football is a lot poorer than it once was. Alot of skill and creativity has left the game in favour of athleticism, tactics and hard work which may be more effective but that doesnt mean its 'better'.

Quality has been replaced by work rate.

Yes im aware of this and that is why i used them as examples because they lacked the motivation and work rate. Im not disagreeing and im not saying that they are better than Ronaldo. The point is that they had all of the talent but where not able to sustain or make the most of it.

Id take R7 over any of them players because i know he would make the most of his talent, put in 100% effort every single day and rarely fail to produce his best.

Their argument is that Messi and Ronaldo would have their legs broken by the tackles allowed back then. Because that’s the criteria for greatness now, not having your legs easily broken.

Ronaldo scoring around 40 goals this season will depend on the way we play and how many games he will start. If we keep playing with a 2 men mid I don’t see him getting more than 25/30.

Funny thing is that crtiteria isn't even correct at all either. Average footballers are much more athletic, larger and tougher today. They flop and dive around because it is beneficial, refs call for it.

If anything that is an argument in favor that the modern EPL is the best league ever cause they are big and fast :inter:
