This. It's all about not overwhelming the healthcare systems by having to treat too many sick people at the same time.

If we were to continue like Corona doesn't exist, it's exactly what's going to happen. Limited capacities, stressed out, tired nurses and doctors (even more so than it's already the case now), and people dying because of it, old AND young, and not only corona patients.

Hasn't this been pointed out again and again at this point? What's the counter argument expect for old people die and it's destroying young folks careers?

My wife has a friend who's brother is NYPD and has the virus. Actually, they all have the virus. Symptoms are all the same -- lack of smell turns into lack of taste, then cough. But their cases seem mild and they don't need hospitalization. Apparently, the brother says most first responders already have the virus, but they're lacking so much staff that it doesn't matter anymore. Supposedly they are bracing themselves for collapse of the system next week, with not only hospitals running out supplies but lack of response from EMS crews due to volume and short staffing. FWIW.

As of yesterday the released figure is 17% of the NYPD, but I could see it being more as you say. This shows exactly why things need to be shut down though. Now more than ever it's the most important to stay inside, because God help you if you get it and need medical intervention when we hit our peak.

My friend possibly has it as well, lost senses of smell and taste three days ago. I'm hoping that's as bad as it gets for her, for her sake as well as her mother's, a breast cancer survivor.
