MIFA Boys Freeze Under Chilly Weather Conditions

ROME, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Indian Football Association (MIFA) lost 0-11 to defending champions C.A. Juventud of Uruguay in the their opening World Club Copa Carnavale Championship group match at the Stadio Comunale Buon Riposo under chilly weather conditions near here Thursday.

The defending champions, displaying better coordination, technique and fitness, were in a class of their own against a very raw side who are playing their very first international match.

So dominant were the Uruguayans that they split the MIFA defence at will to pump in eight goals in the first half and added another three in the second half.

Despite the loss, MIFA deputy president T. Mohan said the match was a very important one for the boys as it gave the boys a feel of what international football was about.

"The weather was very cold and the boys found it difficult to adapt to the conditions. However, it is not an excuse for the loss as the Uruguayan side were simply a better side," said Mohan after the match.

MIFA will next play against Juventus of Italy on Saturday in their group match and Mohan feels, the experience today will be a big help for the boys.

"Our main objective of competing here is to expose the team to international competition as well as team building. This is the first time a club team is playing in the World Club Championship," said Mohan.

MIFA's last match is scheduled on Monday against another Italian side, Palermo.

    Teams:

MIFA: K. Pubalan, A. Girither, Md. Ihsan Ibrahim, A. Vinoth, Paul Gan Sher King, J. Mugilan, R. Suresh, S. Thesigan, P. Tehnmaran, Md. Suhaimi Shoib, M. Sharenthiran.

C.A. Juventud: Salguiera Folchi, Caballero Gonzalez, Peula Mendieta, Orzan Horaciao De Dios, Richard Jair, Mora Nunez, Machado Lopez, Murillo Rivas, Fernandez Silveira, Rodriguez Fernandez, Marquez Machado.

    Lucky seven for Juventus

Victims of an 11-0 thrashing against Juventud in the first round of games, Malaysia fared little better today against a rampaging Juventus. The game finished 7-0 with a four-goal blitz from Lanzafame. Meanwhile, Juventud – defending champions and Sunday night’s opponents – could only manage a 0-0 draw with Palermo.

The other three strikes came from the boots of Giovinco, Ghione and Bianco as the Bianconeri added another scalp to this season’s impressive collection. It all comes down to Sunday night when Chiarenza’s boys have the chance to book their place in the next phase against the Uruguayans. A favourable result would be the perfect present for Ciro Ferrara, who celebrates his 40th birthday the very same day.

    Who is Ghione?

    Chiarenza: “It’s all about tomorrow”

Vincenzo Chiarenza had this to say about his team’ 7-0 rout of Malaysia in Viareggio: “It was an ugly game today as it was so one-sided. The heavy pitch didn’t help either. It was important game though and I’m just happy we managed to break them down, seeing as they’d set their stall out to defend right from the start. It’s now a matter of concentrating on our third and final group game tomorrow”.

Sunday’s opponents Juventud defeated the Bianconeri in the final last year. Will their be an element of revenge out there? “No, this isn’t about revenge. Of course we’ll be pleased if we manage to eliminate them tomorrow but we’re just concentrating on going through ourselves. It’s Ciro Ferrara’s birthday tomorrow and we’ll be looking to give him the perfect present, he deserves it”.

    Who is Ghione?
Matteo Ghione is a defence player .. he didn't play a lot in the Primavera Tim this season , he was alwayes in the bench ..

after Vicenza game they asked DD why he not give Giovinco a chance in the first team and that he maybe will be the star of the first team and not just the primavera team , like what Paonessa did when he scored the second goal for Vicenza , DD said he doesn't need a third player to bench him ( After Zala and Boji) ..

anyway i'm sure that Raisport will show Juventus-Juventud game , so we will see what Giovinco can do against one of the best team in the Viareggio ..
