also people have been complaining about amauri, but looking at the stats, he is above all the top four teams top scorers (i am excluding pens) other than juves:

Del Piero 18
Trezeguet 18
Amauri 13
Cruz 12
Mutu 11
Totti 11
Ibrahimovic 9
Kaka 9
Edit: Ups, you said top 4
Don't read the rest of my post :D

Borriello ? 19 goals (5 pen)
Di Natale ? 17 goals (2 pen)
Pandev also scored 13 without counting the penalties.

But i agree that Amauri is an amazing player. It was a great signing.

ageee with alen. having sold nocerino, a (historically likely) sissoko injury would have been a major issue until we signed poulsen.

the board has showed us they can use the janury window well (sissoko's price plummeted over the first half of last season, almost as much as his apparent respect for juve increased) moves like alonso or ivanovic could well be a lot more viable come january

a lot will depend on our youngsters (Gio , DC and Marchisio and maybe even Ekdal), if they can play at the highest level and break into the starting eleven, I´ll be satisfied. Just give ´em enough playing time. I think it should be one of our priorities next year.

yeh i was just looking at the top four, i know about borriello, but i think this a good advantage for us next season because i can see amauri being a great player for us.

Here is (much) more.... :)
Good post!

But will Poulsen then be used as a sub for Sissoko? In that case: wasn't Nocerino enough? Nocerino did an ok job as a CDM, it's only when foolishly played on the right that he sucked.

Poulsen is an upgrade to Nocerino, yes, but is that worth 10M?

It's hard to think Zanetti or Sissoko will be put on the bench. They've both been excellent last season.

However, with the CL and all, there might be some more rotation.

No, he'll play a lot of matches as a starter. Sometimes he'll be paired with Sissoko and sometimes with Zanetti.
I watched Poulsen a lot of times. I have this feeling that many people don't really know him well. He's a very good DMC. He's not only a bully as the Italian media describes him. He's an excellent ball winner (i'm not so sure if Sissoko is superior to Poulsen) and he's passing ability is very solid (again, i'm not so sure that Zanetti is a better passer than him).

That's the whole point, Geof..... Noce/Sissoko and Noce/Zanetti was much weaker than Sissoko/Zanetti. Nocerino was awful passer and tbh, he wasn't winning many balls, he was fouling much more.
On the other hand, i believe that Poulsen/Sissoko, Poulsen/Zanetti and Sissoko/Zanetti are all equally strong CM pairings and that's exactly what we needed, not to feel the difference when our starting XI players are injured. Like Inter didn't feel the difference when one of their starters was replaced by someone from the bench.
Milan suffered a lot when one of Ambrosini/Gattuso was replaced by Brocchi. Now they have Flamini and they don't have to worry anymore with three very good DMCs

Of course, we could say the same about Xabi Alonso. Quality pair, no matter if Xabi's partner would have been Zanetti or Sissoko.
The only difference is that Xabi offers more in attack while Poulsen offers more in defense.
The board and Ranieri thought that we need a "defender" more than an "attacker". Others think differently.
Personally, i'm not so sure. I wanted Xabi but i see the logic in Poulsen (see my previous post).
Time will prove who was right.

Ranieri is as bad as the board, but then I guess you either go with them or lose your job.. seriously this is just ridicolous, I would have thought we would have learnt from last season having spent a stack loads on tiago and almiron.... Which of the players we signed are truly champions? there all mediocre players.. its getting ridicolous.. guess we got a lot of things to look forward to now! I aint against Poulsons signing, his a good backup but we are seriously gonna struggle to break down teams. I hope Camo stays injury free throughout.

i am happy some of you took a look at the statistics to compare what players we got and what we lack ...

but why does no one who praises alonso as almighty playmaker look at his stats.
yeah i know, alonsos play may look good, but if there comes nothing out of it, i prefer a zanetti type who get's us results ...

if you watch alonsos stats you will see that he is not the playmaker you want him to be or at least no great assist provider:

xabis stats:

season 07/08:
39 games, 2 goals, 1 assist

season 06/07:
51 games, 5 goals, 0 (no) assists

season 05/06:
42 games, 3 goals, 1 own-goal, 0 (no) assists

i find it pretty sad that some of you seem to watch to many youtube videos instead of actually informing yourselves about a player.

i may not have the greatest knowledge about xabi alonso, but it is for everyone to see that xabi is, was and probably will never be a assist provider

even the comparision with pirlo does not really go well (yeah we all know pirlo is better) but just to show you. Pirlo played 55 games last season, scored 7 goals by himself and made 15 assists.

i really don't know where this hype for alonso comes from ...

to pour more oil into the fire the stats of poulsen from the last 3 seasons:

season 07/08:
50 games, 3 goals, 3 assists

season 06/07:
44 games, 2 goals, 0 (no) assists

season 05/06:
46 games, 3 goal, 1 own goal, 5 assists

so for poulsen being not just a little bit stronger in the defend he also does provide some assists (more then the almighty alonso)

For a club that's trying to compete for the scudetto and Champions League, we're sure going about it by recruiting a handful of Brazzos and Grygeras on the cheap again. :(
