Ranieri: Juve don't give up

Sunday 7 December, 2008
Claudio Ranieri hailed Juventus' hard-fought victory at Lecce as “very important” for the Scudetto and praised Sebastian Giovinco.

This is a very important win. We knew it would be tough, but after the goal we perhaps were a little over-confident and conceded the equaliser,” he said of the last-gasp 2-1 result at the Via del Mare.

In any case, we wanted to win and did it, even if it was at the last minute. Lecce make you suffer and we weren't the only ones who have had trouble here.”

An injury crisis ruled out Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta on top of the usual suspects, so Giovinco was given a rare start in an attacking role and scored the opener with a sublime free kick.

Giovinco played a great game, was decisive in every part of the field and in every move,” smiled Ranieri.

The club has been focusing on its youth team for two years now. He and the other youngsters are very strong, but clearly they cannot all get the playing time they want right away.

The victory allows Juventus to maintain the six-point gap from leaders Inter and keeps them on level terms with Milan.

The two joint runners-up go head-to-head next weekend in what is sure to be a spectacular showdown, but Nicola Legrottaglie and Gennaro Gattuso will be suspended.

We cannot and will not give up the Scudetto race. The pressure is on the others to win, but I repeat that I won't be happy with second place.

“Del Piero will have no problem being fit for that game. We only left him out as a precautionary measure and I'd say he'll play against BATE Borisov, too
.”

Tbh, most of Ranieri's decisions are correct, its his subs which are most fucked up, for example, today i would have taken off Nedved, Marchionni and Marchisio, to put in De Ceglie, iago/Rossi and Zanetti.

I honestly believe he was thinking of the Marchisio Zanetti switch but changed his mind once Lecce scored.

But that is my true complaint of Ranieri.

that is true, but would you really put unproven players such as Iago or Rossi and when we have 65% of possession

ranieri used DC as right winger????
Only other choice would be to move Gio, but we know that Gio sucked at RM when he played once..

It was risk, and this time it worked..

Yeah, I guess creating two goals is a bad display for a player.

It's just like how Tiago was benched last year after having two assists.

Just field the players who can blast the ball up the pitch and every one is happy.

yeah, but Marco made quite few assists also in last few games. Did you forget already?
But it is not about that at all..

CR felt that keeping Gio as it is would be much better than to move him on right.

So he opted for DC, as an only viable option at that time, and luckily for us it worked..

End of story..

congrats to Gio once again on superb game and Tiago as u mentioned him just now on solid and improved game recently..

Put him on the left, put him on the right: he WILL deliver. He has what it takes to attack from any part of the pitch. Just like someone said on the match thread he did so against Lecce, he was everywhere. It's not like he is complaining. He just wants to play. Use his talent and you'll do fine.
