why is everyone bashing ranieri for this. Do you really think that if he's told that it's over with incoming transfers, that he's going to say "well, i'd like to have a ronaldinho too", just to have gazzetta write "ranieri desperate with his shit-team" tomorrow? people, you obviously have no idea how press and publicity is working. We could have sold Del Piero and Buffon and bought poulsen and his handicapped twin-brother instead, and ranieri would have said the exact same words. It's just a standart-answer to any question.
Making troubles inside the team by giving statements of unhappyness are the last thing we need right now. Now let's stop these comparisons, because it's useless. We'll see ON THE PITCH, who did the best work. If Ronaldinho breaks his leg in the second game, everything changes again, if ibra doesn't get well again (which IS a possibility) i don't see all that strength in inter's attack. And i don't say these things because we are dependent on other team's injuries. I'm only saying that the solution to all of our worries and question will be delivered on the pitch and not on paper, and surely not on this forum. So far, everything is a wild guess and nothing else. Let's wait

thats exactly it, sometimes he just needs to be silent. But we will see on the pitch who has done the best work this summer and i'm hoping that it will turn out to be us... We'll have to wait and see but i'm hoping we get one more player in, ranieri didnt need to completely dismiss further transfers but maybe thats media games - so far though they have always told the truth

Just to address some of the points you made, although i do agree with where your coming from - it isnt like were in a crisis

2) We are strong - but so are other teams like all with the exception of roma so far (who i expect to dtrenthen shortly) - they are all stronger than they were this time last year as the whole league is recovering from calciopoli

3) i'm 100% with you here - we are of course stronger than we were last season and having sissoko from the start will make a massive difference, although our players are a year older notably del piero and nedved we have done well to get amauri and gio in as alternates

4) Just because it happened last season it doesn't mean it will happen again - thats a naive way of thinking, does that mean that we will lose to the minnows again?

5) your spot on, but you didnt mention the lack of creativity which is why we dropped so many points against the smaller teams who just sat back and defended - our lack of creativity meant we couldnt break them down. We managed to do this against the bigger teams because they attacked us more and gave us space, so we still have weaknesses that need to be addressed.

You obviously haven't seen the interview... Ranieri's interviews are always VERY GOOD actually. I hate it when people comment on his behaviour to the press, without any reason. I saw the interview with my own eyes. Ranieri is surrounded by ~10 press-people, and he just wants to escape, but the reporters just keep asking the same stupid question over and over ('with ronaldinho at milan, have you done enough in the transfer period'). He gets asked the SAME QUESTION about 4 times... And all he does is denying that we did a bad squad management by saying "i'm fine with this team" and "we'll see on the pitch". He did NOT say; "Poulsen is 10 times the player ronaldinho is", nor did he say that milan or anyone will be stronger or weaker that we are. WHAT MORE do you want him to say? Do you want him to say that 'maybe' we need to strengthen this or this a bit further, now that the other folks got the brazilian', only to read the same shit about aquilani, van persie (omg), or god-knows-who again tomorrow in every newspaper. Nah thanks, i'm glad ranieri said what he said. If there should come another player, well then we'll all be surprised. Everything else is speculation.

thank you! Good post. We didn't buy the ronaldinhos or Xabi Alonsos, but we have a decent squad who can surely make an impact next season. On paper, we're definitely not the most promising scudetto-contestant, but who would have thought we'd be 3rd last season. This management hasn't disappointed me so far when it comes to results, and as long as they deliver results, i won't complain.

you're partly right, but i think we should not over valuate this 'creativity'-thing. You're right, and i don't even want to question the fact that we don't have this regista or trequartista, who can make the important assist for our forwards, BUT it's surely not the only reason we lost against the midget-teams. It may be a part-problem of it, but surely not the ONLY reason. You're not saying that the small teams can win or draw against us by just defending, and the bigs are too dumb to do this and lose against us. sounds silly doesn't it. I understand what you mean, and you're not completely wrong, but it's not all that dramatic.
Ranieri showed he's ready to change his system by getting tiago, and he failed. But we did good (if not even 'better') without him, and with more defensive mids. And Tiago surely is not just plain crap.

don't get me wrong ... i don't think we will beat milan, inter and roma because we did last season. i just wanted to say that it is not the strength on paper that counts in the face-to-face game. our will weighs much more than some cocky ibrahimovics or fat guy'inhos ...

the creative lack could be open the door for giovinco in those games ... and if i remember correct, we drew or lost against the smaller teams was most of the time because the opponent scored to many goals and not because we could not score against them. so you could also blame the defense for those failures, because we conceded against small teams.

0:1 against Siena (if i remember correct the scored early and then defended with 11 men)
0:0 against Empoli
0:0 against Torino
0:0 against Sampdoria
0:1 against Udine

(i did not mention 0:0 against Milan because it's no shame to end in goalless draw)

so we lost twice and drew three times because we could not score last season ... i think that value is ok ...

i find it more annoying that we got so many goals against us in games like that 3:3 against Sampdoria

The comments he come out with about tree's and chameleons are just bizarre and it gives the opinion that he doesn't know what he is doing, its a bit embarassing. I remember the confrences he used to give at chelsea and fine he didnt have a great grasp of the english language so you would expect that he would keep it simple, but no he used to talk a load of rubbish. As he is the only manager i know of that does this its a bit strange - he once compared chelsea to a child and now juve to a tree. Sometimes a simple yes or no will do the job!

about the creativity thing i didnt say that it was the only reason, you must also consider the tactics, players form at that particular time and condition, players motivation, maybe even poor finishing by the forwards. But of the lot of possibilities I would say that the creativity issue was one of the main reasons - that and our lack of a player who can shoot from outside the area when the opposition dont allow much space in and around the box. With the big teams as well they are more happy to take a gamble than settle for a point so this is why we have had more space and not due to a lack of their intellegence - after all, if we played inter and they just sat back and soaked up pressure, content for a point that woul annoy thier fans and their players who would want to go for a win, as would ours, the same cant be said if we play a siena or a catania as they would be delighted to draw!

Sure, when teams like juve, inter roma and milan play eachother the paper side of football goes out the window and it is all about the fire in the belly, after a year in b we had that last season and thankfully managed to win the big games.

Hopefully the creative void will be filled by giovinco next season - who i have high hopes for and I dont want to see anyone signed who will limit his playing time - thats why i think alsono would have been perfect, he's an allrounder who can defend as well as attack. As I said above i dont think that the creative side is the only thing that needs looking at from last season as that would be naive of me, your quite right the defence also needed to be looked at, although i am a bit disappointed nothing was done in the fullback slots, zebina and particularly molinaro need to be upgraded and they were responsible for quite a few defensive lapses last season

Remember Trappatoni ? He is also a good example for trying to explain things in their non native language, which in many cases is just funny ... but i like this guy ... at least it shows he got heart and tries to explain what he feels about certain things instead of just pretending to not understand or not being able to answer properly

perhaps in a few years we will like ranieri for his strange comparisions ... perhaps it's just a tactic to get reporters to think about a answer while so can escape

i did not see de ceglie much, but perhaps he is just sufficent and that means that we got two pretty young left backs + 3 players that could play right back (mellberg, zebina and grygera). perhaps one of these guys will make an impact next season and we wont bring one ... but i think fullbacks are not often seen as transfer priority in general

afterall, i don't see all this problem with our fullbacks, at least quantity-wise. On LB we have Molinaro and De Ceglie, and if it really comes down to it, Chiellini can move out left too. Now De Ceglie seems to be a good one, i can't say really, and molinaro... well he's molinaro. But with molinaro, i have to say that there are worse players around. he's young, and i don't want to argue whether or not he's juve-worth, but his defending is not that bad. His crosses are awful, his passes (long range) are horrible, but his defending is... well let's say OK. They're both young and can improve, and i wouldn't be surprised if molinaro develops to a complete LB in the next years. I think our 2 LBs will do it for next season. In CB we have 4 people which are acceptable and on RB we have Grygera, Zebina and Mellberg who can move out in case. That's fine too. Our right side was pretty good last year. They may be both a bit injury prone, but this will do it as well...

I saw myself swearing a lot less towards him at the end of last season And in the preparation-games, he looked good (not that this would count, but still). I'm glad that at least, there will be some space for de ceglie at least, and if de ceglie can take the starting-spot from molinaro, i'll be glad. Molinaro as a backup is fine.

His mistakes when defending were ones of positioning and concentration.

He is fine when a player is running at him, mainly due to his pace, but we conceded quite a few goals when crosses came in and he failed to defend the back post properly.

Hopefully he will step up and show his Siena form which got him his chance at Juve in the first place.

hopefully he's improved these aspect over the summer and he is a player of potential i just hope we can get that out of him, as mentioned his pace is his best aspect, if the kid could cross and pass he'd be a pretty good fullback
