But they only get subbed when the game was over (we were comfortably ahead).

I would have subbed both of them today at about 70-75 minutes.
Subbing Nedved min 70-75 makes sense. But not Alex when we still haven't secured 3points. Had we conceded a goal, then I don't think a lot of us here would have been happy having Ale on the bench instead of pushing more.

Marchionni, Nedved and Sissoko are the subs that I would have made.

Indeed.

I didn't realise Taddei was on the pitch until his number went up to get subbed.
I noticed him many times but he is sooo useless it's pretty scary. He didn't do anything right and he's slow it's really sad.He lost too many balls...And it's not just this match,he's always like that.

I just don't know how Spaletti can prefer him over Menez.I know he's injured right now but I mean from the start of the season!Oh and Cassetti?Grygera is like Ramos compared to him.

Once it gets to the last ten minutes, you have to stop thinking about what you would do if you concede and make the changes to make sure you don't concede.

I think taking Delp Piero off for Giovinco would have made sense, because Alex was isolated and struggling to keep possession. He wasn't even managing to draw fouls like he nomally does.

Not after what happened with Napoli, Lecce, Palermo my friend.

Thats true. I would have subs Nedved for Seba. Del Piero in-case we need to keep possession and Seba taking his counter attack chances. Anyway, I wanted to see Seba too Tbh. But lets just say that I'm satisfied with this score.

I was content with score and, to a certain extent, the performance.

Perhaps those late goals earlier in the season wouldn't have happened if appropriate changes had been made in those games.

Ranieri: «Victory!»

Claudio Ranieri does not stop to calculate. The coach will field the best possible formation, «obviously without risking anybody», because the only thing he is expecting from the Tim Cup match against Catania is victory and the subsequent progress in this competition too: «This is a match we must win because we want to go through to the next round. Juventus has already won 9 Coppa Italia and we would be the first to have won ten titles. We want to do well in all the competitions, including this one, and we want to play to win as we have done up to now».

This the gist of what the Juventus coach had to say during the press conference on the eve of the match to be played tomorrow at the Olimpico in Turin at 20:45hrs. Those who cannot make it to the stadium can watch the match live on Juventus Channel or follow the livematch in Italian or English on Juventus.com. The knock-out match between the team of Ranieri and that of Zenga promises to be an exciting one since Catania will definitely want to do well: «I expect – confirmed Ranieri – Catania to play well as they have done in the championship. Nowadays in Italy there is no team that simply sits and waits, just have a look at Catania, Lecce, Siena and Cagliari. Catania’s best characteristic? Playing well, closing up the spaces and fight back on the counterattack».

Wayne Bridge backs Claudio Ranieri's Juventus to beat Chelsea

By Neil McLeman 13/01/2009

Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has put the Euro frighteners on Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Bridge claims Juventus are Champions League favourites against Chelsea - because of ex-Stamford Bridge boss Claudio Ranieri.

Manchester City's new £12million left-back scored the Champions League winner at Arsenal in 2004 to take Ranieri's Blues into the semi-finals. And now Bridge reckons the Juve manager will be tactically superior to Scolari when they meet next month.

"I believe Juventus have a notable advantage - their secret strength is their coach," said Bridge.

"Claudio Ranieri is thorough and prepares for every game looking at every detail. He knows Chelsea thoroughly.

"And I believe that of all the four English teams left in the Champions League, Chelsea, with their style of play, will be most suited to Juventus.

"Chelsea are less English, more South American - less physical and more tactical.

"Ranieri is an exceptional person, he helped me so much when I was injured."

Ranieri: I'm up for the Cup

Tuesday 13 January, 2009

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri will pick his strongest side for tomorrow's Coppa Italia clash with Catania, but his squad has been decimated by injuries.

The Old Lady kicked off 2009 with a win over Siena and must now turn their attentions to the visit of Catania tomorrow evening.

Pavel Nedved and Claudio Marchisio will be rested as a precaution and will join Mauro Camoranesi, Giorgio Chiellini, Tiago Mendes, Vincenzo Iaquinta, David Trezeguet, Jonathan Zebina, Antonio Chimenti and Hasan Salihamidzic on the injured list.

“I will choose the best formation without risking anyone,” Ranieri said in today's Press conference.

We want to win and we are taking this competition very seriously. It is one of our objectives and after 20 days of rest we need this game to get back into match routine.

Juventus have won the Coppa Italia nine times and I think we will become the first team in Italy to make it 10.

I also made all the players practise penalties in training because you never know what will happen in a one-off game.

Chiellini is recovering well and I'm hoping that he will be available for Sunday. Nedved and Marchisio will rest and Tiago may also be back at the weekend.

Iaquinta is an important player and it upsets me not to have him for this kind of game.

Trezeguet is getting better day by day and played his first mini-games today and Buffon just needs to get back in the rhythm of things.

The teams will need to brave freezing conditions for this evening's game with temperatures expected to be around -4 degrees.

It will be cold at 8pm but what can you do?” Ranieri said.

Of course it would be nicer to play in the afternoon, but fixtures are fixtures. Playing three games in a week will help us get back to the shape we were in during December.

Ranieri: «I am satisfied. It is an improvement over Sunday»

Just three days ago, watching his Juventus against Siena, Claudio Ranieri was happy with the victory at the end of a difficult match. Against Catania, the coach could once again witness, for most of the time, the team that had shown such great game play in the past weeks.

After the match against the Sicilian side, the coach spoke his thoughts to Juventus Channel: «I had said that I wanted to see the rhythm shown in 2008 and today we managed. Apart from a few episodes the team played in a compact manner throughout the match. Tonight we managed to do well even in those areas in which we erred on Sunday. I am happy with the return of Buffon and Zanetti, with the performance of Giovinco and with the very positive debut by Ariaudo. Such a performance was important in view of the next two matches against Lazio and Fiorentina. On Sunday a difficult match awaits us. Last year’s match in Rome was the one in which we conceded most shots on goal».

Ranieri : ‹‹Now is the time to work hard…››

The first round ended with yet another victory. Now after the victorious intermezzo in the Coppa Italia Juventus are about to fly to Rome where they will meet Lazio in what promises to be a spectacular but difficult match.Claudio Ranieri speaks of this and much more in the press conference held on the eve of the match.

The first match of the second round of the championship sees Juventus playing away to Lazio who are fresh from a good victory last Sunday and who have the likes of Zarate and Pandev in the team.

Do you have a formation in mind already? What about Lazio?
‹‹ I will think of the formation tonight. You know which players are available and which are not. Lazio is in good form. They have a good team, Delio Rossi and Loitto put togther a good squad. I had spoken of them as being amongst the top teams. They had problems last year because of injuries so they couldn’t repeat the performance of the previous eason. This year we will be playing a difficult match. They are fast and organiized. We however are ready and will do our best.››

What about Buffon and Chiellini?
‹‹ Buffon should be in the starting line-up. I will talk to him but things seem ok. He rested against Catania and is now ready. Chiellini has this muscular problem. It seemed like a little thing but it was more then we thought. He came back from the break and felt something. Certain small injuries take more time. There are some players who recover fast and others who need more time.››

How do you fell about the problems in the defence?
‹‹ I feel as always. We had problems before in the midgield which I overcame by changing Nedved’s position,. This is the first time this season we have so many defenders missing but I have good players and we’ll see what we can do.››

What about Ariaudo? Will he be in the starting line-up?
‹‹ I have to think and and consider everything because there are various aspects and so I must think welll abiut it. Lazio have fast players so I have to think before taking a decision.››

Do you feel demoralized since you had hoped to find the full team available after returning from the Christmas break? Will Juventus buy any new players in January?
‹‹ I am not demoralized. Things aren’t worse then they were before the break. We have to deal with Chiellini’s injury and Grygera’ suspension but these are not long term problems and we should have everybody back in two weeks time. No. I don’t think we need new players,. We cannot have a squad of 40 after all only 11 go on the field..››

What do you think of this new trend of big investors trying to poach champions away from their teams? Do you fear losing Buffon? Will Milan be weaker without Kaka’ and would you sell him?
‹‹ I think that until there are people ready to invest in football they are welcome as long as they don’t open a vortex. As a sportsman I wouldn’t like Kaka’ to leave because Italian football would be loosing a champion but I can’t interfere with Milan’s plans. Buffon? They seem to be thinking of others so I don’t think I have the worries Ancelotti has at the moment. Milan without Kaka is different but here we have a number of beautiful examples of players leaving but the squad still going strong: Vialli, Baggio, Zidane, Platini...››

What do you expect the table to look like after tomorrow?
‹‹ Honestly, I don’t look at the table but think of what we can do to do well. We will look at the table at the end of the season. Now is the time to work hard..››

What are the things to think about? Do you think Milan will be weakened if Kaka’ leaves?
‹‹ The more good teams the better because the points are more open. I think of my team andat the moment of Lazio. I know what Lazio is capable of doing when in good form so I look at what I can do and not what can happen to others..››

Do you think Juventus are capable of changing tactics since you seem to have a 4-4-2 formation as default?
‹‹ We did it when we needed to. We changed formation as was necessary. It depends on how you express yourself best. Up to now Juventus has always been clever enough not to allow the other team to impose the game but dictate theirs on others.››

matter of fact the only game i remember us not playing 4-4-2 was when we played the trident against inter or roma i tink it was last season wit DP behind Trez & IQ

Change Nedved ranieri for god's sake just change him. We're playing with lazio as if our team does not exist. For once do the right thing and play Giovinco instead of nedved you old brainless chicken!!!

And yeah for those who will respond and defend ranieri, i don't give a shit about what you think. I've followed ranieri's career for the past 12 years so i know what he's about.

What is the point of posting if you are not willing to hear what other people have to say?

There are others who have followed Ranieri for a long time.
