Reports in Britain are suggesting that Juventus may beat Rangers in the race to sign Bayern Munich striker Claudio Pizarro.

The Peruvian’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires in June and the 28-year-old is set to leave the Allianza Arena on a Bosman after six seasons with the Bavarian outfit.

The Daily Record claims that the player was offered a massive £45,000 a week deal by Rangers after boss Walter Smith spoke to the South American’s agent last week.
However, Juventus are understood to be ready to outbid them by offering £60,000 a week in order to bring Pizarro to the Stadio Olimpico.

The former Werder Bremen man, who would arrive with the added bonus of an Italian passport, has been associated with the Old Lady for the last six months.

Valencia, PSV and Inter are also reportedly keen on the striker which makes a Glasgow switch seem unlikely – even if they are willing to make the Lima-born ace the highest-paid player in their history.

I would be very disappointed if we pay Pizzaro £60000 a week. He is an OK striker but I would not see him as a starter here and £60000 is too much for a bench guy..

Secco is obviously going to be conservative on the market, hence his advances for players like Iaquinta and Pizarro. These players seem like filler, but there not near as bad as everyone makes them sound like, pending the future of Trezeguet. However, I cannot see these players in Juventus' long-term plans, and that's my biggest concern. The future is now, and if the management fail to implement a concrete plan, the out-door will be swinging.

Things would've been ten-times easier if Deschamps just played Bojinov a little more often. Perhaps next year's third/fourth striker was staring them right in the face all along. Stupid is as stupid does, I suppose...

Bayern Munich striker Claudio Pizarro has joined Chelsea on a free transfer, according to The Times

The Peruvian striker is out-of-contract and is seeking a move away from the deposed Bundesliga champions after they failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Pizarro had been heavily linked with a move to Juventus after snubbing an ambitious offer from Rangers, but it appears the departure of Didier Deschamps from the Turin giants put an end to their interest.

Pizarro has scored 97 goals in 229 games for the German giants.
