There is no one like Marchisio in other teams, not being asked to play in roles that aren't clearly defined to them. We keep asking a box-to-box central midfielder with more attacking upside than defensive to play a containing role in various areas, often wide, because he is willing to do it and has the stamina to do it.

Then we expect something close to his best once in a decent attacking position. Sigh.

He's absolute garbage and how anyone can deny that is a mystery to me. He's simply not good enough for our club, it is that simple. Maybe his rep won't fall by that much and other clubs will come in for him. Its painful to watch him run around and contribute nothing to the team while quality players like Pogba, Vidal, and tevez have to cary him.

Bender. Khedira. The latter plays a very similar role for both club and country - expected to make runs from midfield.

How is Flamini very much expected to be involved with the team? Don't you think the presence of Pirlo, Pogba and Vidal - on paper a much better midfield, marginalizes Marchisio's role?
Bender, I could agree. But IMO he's already light years ahead of Marchisio.

As for Flamini I again see him as a pure DM. Not just that, but a horrible DM.

Not all teams have such players. It's incredible how much people overrate Marchisio and his contribution. Majority being biased as he's the 'real Juventino'.

So you actually see him running? There goes the invisability myth then.

Even if only so, doesn't that mean anything these days?

Yet he's a regular starter for both Juventus and Italy for 3 years now. :boh:

Light years ahead? But can't find his way ahead of Khedira in the German NT, which is arguably at the same level to the Italian? Quite a superlative to use.

Flamini, horrible? In Milan perhaps. Apparently, he's done excellently since he came to Arsenal. He's exactly what they needed, their fans say. Did he suddenly turn into a different player, or was it the change of tactics and colleagues that did it?

I'm going to help you draw a conclusion: Marchisio is a very good player. Not world class, not the creative spark we need in this team right now nor the physical beast that Vidal is. Therefore, he's played out of position in order to help neutralize one of the best players in the world.

Does that make him a scapegoat for last night?

Italy has guys like Montolivo and Aquilani (not to mention Astori and Ranocchia), so you might not want to use that to support your argument :D

Hence, Marchisio has to start for Italy given the lack of depth and quality beyond the tarting 11.

Who was the guy that used the phrase "lighting years" ?! :touched:

That was a classic

Sadly running around isn't much of an achievement. Might as well sign a serie C player and tell him to run around on the pitch, and he'll do it for far less money at that. Fact is he contributes nothing.

The coaches need to have a word with themselves. There's no reason to have him on the field for a team that has ambitions of competing with the best in the world. I really thought that I had seen the worst of him in that match vs bayern last season, but yesterday he hit a new low. He couldn't get close to the Madrid players and when he did he couldn't do anything. Then when we were going forward he managed to mess up everything, slow us down, can't control the ball, just a mess.

Vidal, Pogba, Llorente and Tevez showed the level of footballer we ought to have, and he showed the level of footballer we have absolutely no reason to have in our team.

At least Marchisio runs inside the pitch, around would certainly be of no use, guess that's how people play in serie C...

The way he didn't even control that simple ball when he would've been straight through on goal at the end of the game is axe murder worthy.

Read what he wrote carefully, "run around ON the pitch"...
