Italy badly lack talents. If you look at this generation and compare it with the likes of DP, Totti, Vieri, Pirlo, Nesta, Cannavaro or with the one before you have to wonder what happened? He came from our ranks which instantly raises his value 20% and had potential at that time. Potential which he never realized apart from one good season. Now people still expect from him to fulfill what was expected and fail to realize he's rather average player. At international level I don't recall him ever performing.
Being a versatile is not as good as people think it is. Imo, being versatile only means that coaches would abuse you like a bit*h, and you will never reach your full potential and you will always stay average. Its better to be very good in one thing than to be average in several things. Thats Marchisio's problem and why he never became a WC player.

Versatility has got nothing to do with it. Vidal is as versatile as they get and he's not played out of position because he's just that good at what he does and where he plays. When Pogba was introduced as a regular at the end of last season, Marchisio was moved to another position simply because a better player had entered the pitch in his spot.
If Marchisio doesn't up his game next season he might sooner rather than later find himself in a position where he's 4 or dven 5 pick behind Pogba and maybe even Asamoah.
