The improved contract was long overdue, since his previous one was a joke. You could indeed argue about the the size of the increase, but compared to his role in the team / teammates' contracts, it's only fair.

Can't really think of an invisibility joke right now, so I'll just leave it at that.

Fuck the haters..

I would like to see him loaned to Siena next year, just so he would fuck us twice like Giovinco did and everyone here would be moaning why we let him go..

Chiello has 3,5m€ and he's done shit this season.

There always should be some balance.
You can't keep these players on 1mil/yr and then wish to sign the likes of Tevez and Aguero on 6/7x their salaries. This is how it works. It's todays numbers in football.
Whether some of you like it or not, he's a starter. We're not talking 3rd/4th choice player here.

Ans stop comparing our wages to a team like Udinese. They are a selling club who happen to overachieve for a season. you would expect them to reinforce if they reached CL, right? wrong. Watch them sell their key players.. that's how they run their club. they just look to develop some players and sell them for good sum and at the same time give some competition in Serie A. It's not gonna change anytime soon and of course they wouldn't offer high wages to players they have.

Well said, great posts.

And to those who are distressed about Hamsik earning less, were we about signing him, we would have to pay much more than we do for Marchision.

Melo, I don't get you. You were getting upset when people were making fun of Amauri, even while he's was off at Parma. You were saying that he's still a Juve player, or something like that. But you take every opportunity to laugh at EVERY invisibility joke, even the lame ones, like above, and join in the bashing.

I can't believe this fuss about Marchisio earning 2.5 mln which is way more fair than what he used to earn.
It's fair when you compare it to what the others in Juve earn, right? Now that is what makes all this wrong way of thinking.
Some months ago Agnelli said that we're 7th or 8th in the world of football based on the wages we pay. Logically, a team that pays 100m per year on wages should also be in the world's top 10 best teams. But we're not even in the top 30 so there has to be a problem somewhere.
The problem is clear. We're paying too high wages to players who don't deserve them at all and we're trying to fix the problem by offering higher wages to those players of ours who are better than the ones who suck and get high wages.
In the end it will still result with us still being the ~30st best team in the world, but instead of being 7th or 8th in the wages standings, we'll jump to 4th or 5th, which makes things even less logical than they are right now.

We will not become a better team by giving less to players like Marchisio. No matter how bad we are at the moment, we can't compare ourselves to teams like Udinese. Only because we have been playing like a mediocre team in the past few years doesn't mean we CAN pay for players' wages like mediocre teams do. The way you put it, no player in our team (excluding one or two) deserves to get that much but thing is that we can't make pay-cuts and then bring in players who won't come unless they get 6 times more. It wouldn't make us a better team either. We need to offload the garbage we have, add world class players (for whom we will have to pay much more than what they deserve), hire a real coach and then we can hope to be a top team again.

No, what we need to do first is to make the squad smaller. Names don't matter in this case, but as an example I'll use Rakitic (plays LW and CM) to replace both Sissoko and Martinez in our squad. Moves like that are needed at first. I know that considering the injuries we had lately making the squad smaller might look like a suicide, but that's a risk that needs to be taken.
Then we offload some high earners, which will be a tough job but can be achieved if we continue for a year to pay part of their wages (like we did with Trez).
Only then we can start thinking about giving pay rise to Marchisio and the likes.
Of course, we'll also need to stop paying 3, 4, 5 millions to guys like Toni or Pirlo, guys who sooner rather than later will put us again in a position where we'd like to get rid of them but we won't be able to do it due to the huge wages they earn.

That kind of work will very soon, in 2-3 years, result with us paying the same wages we pay now, but we'll have a much better team.

The squad size is a good point. I remember Lippi's squads usually being relatively small, but every player counted and had something different to contribute.

The next season is perfect time to do it. We will play serie A only. We need only 18 senior players+primavera guys. The risk is gonna be worthy here. Instead of having 2 senior players for every position and 3 more senior players (Brazzo, Manninger etc) for just in case, as we did in the last 2-3 seasons, we should go on with smaller squad and 4-5 versatile players who can cover two positions.
Even if we still pay the same wages as we do with 25 senior players, it will undoubtedly result with a higher quality team because with the wages of those 7 unneeded players we can cover the wages of two world class players.

That is true. There's absolutely no need to "replace" everyone who's going to leave.

Right now we're paying the wages of Del Piero, Quagliarella, Iaquinta, Matri, Toni and most of the wages to Amauri and Trezeguet.
I don't think there is a team in the world that is paying wages to 7 strikers.

We're still a very rich team, but things like these are big part of the reason why we can't afford to act like a big team on the market.

And this right here is the problem just like the insane amounts we pay for players who are not supposed to play (Grosso & Brazzo come to mind), the increase for Marchisio isn't.

He's not the greatest player in the world & a lot of people may not like him, but whether we admit it or not, he is a vital player of the team & far from being deadwood.

Depends on what you mean by vital. If it's because he plays a lot since we have nobody else, sure. But even then, there are several players more "vital" than him, including Aquilani when he was on form before Winter.
