If everyone saw the Al Jazeera replay I did no one would say it was a dive. They zoomed in a square area where the contact was and his foot bends back from more of a right angle to how it is in the photo above.

I haven't seen this replay anywhere since, however.

My humble opinion.

The contact was there, but it was not strong enough to take him down, as he could have tried to jump him and continue chasing the ball.

They barely touched, so it can be said that he played the "dive" card.... but technically it was not a dive because there was contact between the two.

Anyways, i think it is pretty clear he was looking for the penalty. But this kind of things are part of modern football so...

I really really wonder how would he do in a more offensive role. Like Fabregas at Barca.
Don't think it would suit him.

Very different role starting high up the pitch and having to play with your back to goal rather than being able to time your arrival to join the attack from deep.

I think it would suit him perfectly.

He has great link-up play with Mirko when Mirko is on form. Not to mention, Marchisio has some very lethal runs into the box, he always seems to find a nice pocket to get into. Plus his one-twos are great in and around the box as we have already seen this season. His shooting is pretty good as well, for example his finish v Roma.

He would do well, have Vidal sit right behind him with Pirlo slight back.

made a meal of minimal contact, anyone who doent think this is a dive get your eyes checked and start being less biased
All depends on your definition of a dive.

Both things that are much easier to do when unmarked due to running from deep rather than starting in a position closer to defenders making it more likely you'll be marked.

Ok I'll bite.

Nothing to do with eyesight, when you have a huge screen with a zoomed in area showing you the replay from 5 feet away. Welcome to the 21st century.

I'm not saying he should be sitting consistently right behind the strikers, he should continue doing what he is doing tracking back...but I do think he should be asked to push forward more often if possible. As far as the WC, nothing really worked for Italy anyways, isn't fair to single him out.

Look at him the beginning of the season versus now...he needs to get the opportunities to link up with the front 2 or 3 more often, he does it rather well.

No issue with him getting forward more, because he is good at it.

I just think his current starting position on the pitch is the best one for him in terms of his ability to be effective going forward.

And we agree.

Remain where he is in the formation, just give him the freedom to push forward more. He has a knack of making those annoying runs that defenders hate having to react to.
