I think you have to take into account spending power. Whether we could spend more than we do or not, our ownership and management don't seem to want to.

Teams that win the CL playing attacking football are the richest clubs in football. Building an attack-minded team that is capable of winning CL is far more expensive than building a defensive-minded team that can get to the final and hopefully nab one. Unfortunately, or revenue and spending pattern makes it far more likely for us to have European success with the defensive-minded approach.

Of course this also makes it very unlikely we'll ever be outright favourites in a CL final, and our style won't be as aesthetically pleasing, but it also means we will be a contender unlike similar revenue/selling to buy clubs that try to win playing attacking football against teams with better attackers and get smashed every time.
The irony with someone with that username posting this at this thread considering the situation we are in.

Roflmao...

I didn't bring up City and PSG. I was responding to someone else saying we should be more like them. And adding to ludicrous City/PSG argument, we under Agnelli have been far more successful than City and PSG while spending far less. Cuckoldry level of self-deprecation combined with mental imp level "we should all-out attack" fanboyism.

We didn't play attacking footy in Dortmund 3-0. We counter-attacked.

That Juve was a diff team. We can use players like Thuram, Zambrotta, Davids now. That Real was soft in midfield and overall light in mid/def. A physical, balanced/pressing game was the way to go. Was far from gung-ho attacking.

This season, we've been extra defensive because our midfield and defense lack balance otherwise. We tried playing a more expansive game at the start of the season but sucked. Not sure why you'd wanna go back to that.

There have been specific mistakes in certain games....like Inter, Tot'num, Lazio. Focus on the specific mistakes instead of blaming everything on a macro level.
Thats what Im saying we can play a more attacking style of football - It doesnt has to be "Gung-ho" - If we play the way City and PSG play we will surely win nothing... Conte said it best when losing 1-0 to City - He said Im not crazy enough to play like City vs City as they would win 3-0 4-0.. and there was some comparison to Arsenal..
HOWEVER playing a more attacking style doesnt has to be "gung ho" - Do you remember the Juve Barcelona final in 15 - I would say we played very nice despite losing - but again you have some point when saying our midfield is too dull for this to happen.
If only we could get Fabinho and SMS while keeping Pjanic and our important players

Fucking sucks that Higuain is injured for this one. Mandzukic has been in horrendous form lately (and isn't 100% either) Not a fan of Licht starting either...but what do you do
We've zero impact players coming off the bench as well. We'll sub in Higuain for Mandy and that is that. Chances will be few and far between and I hope to god our players show a bit more composure up front than they have shown all season. Hope Dybala is up for it. If we are going to win this, it'll be in the first half. Two goals and shut down city :xfinger:

I thought that De Sciglio was injured?

Really should be Sturaro on the bench instead of him

Hopefully Mandzu is 100% fit and recovered

I already know all the subs - Khedira out Marchisio in, Mandzu out Higuain in, Lichtsteiner out De Sciglio in...

I don't mind Licht starting, he's certainly a much more attacking option than Barzagli and will help us play the ball better than we did in Turin, we need to score goals here. Yeah, he will give them an opportunity or two to score, but Turin showed that we can't contain them anyways, I wouldn't like us trying to play for 1:0. Lets aim to score at least two and hope for the best.
