I remember some deluded fellows claiming we'll top the group going by their assumption that Barca had declined. It's pretty obvious which team has declined more. And back to realistic expectations please. Our mercato defined that anyway.

Another disjointed performance. This team can't seem to play consistently for a full 90 minutes. We were absolute garbage in the 1st half, could've potentially been 2-0 down early in the 2nd, but somehow managed to find a goal, and then went back to sleep.

Lazy effort, painfully slow buildup, terrible crossing, tons of meaningless horizontal passes, and our defense always looks shaky and likely to concede a goal.

We need to drastically improve if we actually want to achieve anything this season. Napoli, Inter, and even Roma and Lazio will push us hard in Serie A; in Europe, there at least half a dozen teams who are clearly superior to us.

Second half was acceptable partly because Sporting were either scared or fatigued or both, we had all the ball and no pressure on us. Invariably that leads to a goal.

Might have been a win if we hadn't spent 45 mins doing absolutely nothing. But nah, let's drag it out a bit more.
We've never played with purpose for 90 mins in any match that I can remember, except for maybe Milan a few seasons back when Marchisio got 2 late goals to win 2-0.

Dunno if it's fitness, mentality or both.

He didn't attack the space once in this game, didn't run at defenders
We need to start trying to run through the middle more. We are too predictable with Cuadrado/Mario as wingers as we allll know what side we will try to attack down.

The point is we could have beaten Barcelona 1 - 0, now we have to win 4 - 0
"Sealed top spot" is more than a leap, that's what I'm saying. Barcelona at home and Olympiacos away with this team in the group stages, yeah right. We would have beaten Barcelona and drawn to Olympiacos to slide to second then face PSG or something in the next round. That's what this team is at this stage. They couldn't seal a sandwich bag.

What a terrible approach to an important game, accepting a draw before the game starts has to be up there as the most disgusting approach a manager can take. In the second we lookd much better but that is partly due to Sporting doing like we usually do, falling back and letting us attack them that is. I think I have said these things so many times that I am really bored of repeating them but will we ever learn? I don't think so, it is part of our identity.

We were forced to. Sporting were amazing and they covered everything. They ran so hard that, even though I expected them to retreat come minute 60, they had no legs for similar performance after the break. They gave their all in the first half. Perhaps a mistake by them, but that was nevertheless the main reason why we couldn't do anything in the first half.

  Are you seriously trying to say that you think the last time this team played with purpose was in Conte's first season, in 2011. Despite the 6 league titles, like 4 coppa italias and and two CL finals that have followed.

You haven't once seen us play with purpose since then. Since 2011 :howler: God you really are a pathetic little fucker aren't you.

You have gone beyond full retard

Good rates overall, except Pjanic, in the first half he was pretty bad...

I feel like too much of our gameplan is to make space for Dybala. The wingers hold defenders wide and Higuain stays on the last man for the entire first 45 minutes so we can keep both their CBs occupied. Higuain is no threat to get in behind. We have only one guy who can make that pass (Pjanic) as it is. Dybala finds space sometimes for a shot from 30 yards. Is that the best strategy? I don't know. It's such a hard way to score goals and we see now that he can't be counted to score a screamer every week.

But in the 2nd half there was more movement from everyone, in and out of spaces and it was a lot more effective. As always. I really hate Higuain on the last man in build up. It's fine in the final 3rd like on his goal today. But you have lumbering giants like Coates that could not be happier to have Higuain sat next to him for 45 minutes.

I have to say that we could have been ripped apart if Sporting had any semblance of a striker threat. Dost is absolutely shocking for a team that wants to counter.

We blew it. Barca drew fucking olympiacos and we didn't capitalize. I'm just saying we only won the group once in the Allegri era. He doesn't value winning the group. Lets not forget us limping to first place in the weakest group last year. This mentality came back to bite us v Bayern.

    Infuriating 1st half, not a bad 2nd.
I hope Allegri learned a thing or 2 during this game.

Fair result in the end if you ask me. Not because we "deserved" to get anything from this game, but because Sporting sure as hell didn't deserve the 3 points.

Buffon 5,5 - Not sure if he should have done better on the goal. But he could have.
De Sciglio 6 - Not flawless, but decent all things considered.
Barzagli 6,5 - Best player overall. Did as much as he could, often all by himself it seemed. Probably the main reason we didn't go 2 goals down.
Chiellini 5 - Not good enough. A lot of mistakes throughout the entire game.
Alex Sandro 4 - A joke in the first half, average in the second.
Khedira 5,5 - Mostly okay, but he doesn't cut it in a 2-man midfield.
Pjanic 5 - Fairly poor. Caught sleeping quite a few times.
Cuadrado 6 - Goes from terrible to great and back again in the span of 3 minutes. But in the end he did deliver.
    Mandzukic 4 - Bad
Dybala 5,5 - Average, but a lot of heart.
Higuain 6,5 - Quite bad up until he did what he's there for.

Douglas Costa 5 - One trick pony.
    Matuidi -
    Bernardeschi -

Yes but technically we were also very poor, and physically static. If you could beat teams just by running around we'd be in trouble every game because aside from Pjanic we've got no one in there to play an out ball. I expect a lot from Dybala when he receives the ball but he goes through these patches of games where he's just on the fringe, you might see a great bit of skill or a dummy, assist, goal, but it's not a good 90 mins. Today was another example.

Mandzukic, what the hell? Easily the worst he has played for a long time. He didn't even look like a footballer.
