I believe it was his last CL match. I don't see him continuing after this.
Also, while Buffon was exceptional last night, overall his season has been pretty poor. It's quite obvious age has finally caught up with him. Which is only normal.

RM fan here.

Let's stop talking crap and be honest. All teams got helped by the referee.

The penalty was fair by the way.

For example :

The non existent penalty that Bayern got vs RM last year.
Ramos OG from last year it's another example, Muller was offside and he interfere with the game.
Alli goal should've been canceled for offside ( Tottenham-Real 3-1)
That red card for Pepe in SF with Barcelona, it was bullshit, he never touched Alves.

Dante should've been sent off in that UCL final from 2013 after he kicked Reus.

Busquets dive vs Inter in 2010.

And I can say at least 10.

You played a great game, congratz to Juventus for their fighting spirit.

And why you don't talk about Isco's goal that have been canceled for that non existent offside?
I don't care what you got against other teams. Against Juve Real has been always favored.
On Isco disallowed goal footage was not clear.

we saw that yesterday.
Though in fairness there's nothing wrong with having a citytrip with your girlfriend two years prior to officiating a game there.

Michael Oliver controversial moments

Red card to Angel Di Maria

Manchester United fans were bewildered when the referee sent Di Maria off in a 2-1 FA Cup loss to Arsenal in March 2015.

Oliver had shown Di Maria a yellow card for a dive but while protesting, the then Manchester United player pulled the shirt of the referee.

Oliver wasn’t having it, a second yellow card and Di Maria was off.
2. The incident with Joe Hart

Michael Oliver is not scared of drama or controversial decisions but in November 2014 he took a completely different route choosing to keep his cards in his pocket.

But it was a very odd decision as Joe Hart had sprinted out of his box to square up to the referee in protest.

It was shocking that Oliver didn't punish Hart and again it was controversial.
3. Red card for Drinkwater

Danny Drinkwater then of Leicester City lost it when he was sent off by Michael Oliver for a foul on Memphis Depay back in 2016.

Oliver flashed a yellow card for Drinkwater, his second of the game but the midfielder was furious, swearing at the referee as he left the field

Tacconi: It's simple, Gigi's a person with immense value but he was wrong. In his place I would have punched Oliver in the face, I swear....

lol always loved that Tacconi.

I don't want to watch this but know the guy. He believes he's a famous youtuber and $#@!.
I dont understand any Italian, but he seems to be focusing on Juventus a lot, the same happened after the Tottenham game and Real at home. I guess thats what happens when youre not relevant for 3-4 decades, then win a CL, then dissapears again.

Let's talk about what the ref saw and could not see FROM HIS POSITION when the incident happened:
- What he saw: A brief contact by Benatia but the ref knew that was not enough for Vazquez to fall over and Vazquez didn't.
- What he couldn't see: There's no way the ref could see if Benatia hit the ball or not.
And if he wasn't sure, why called for the penalty? How much CL experience this 33 year old ref have? He lives in a country that the media keeps talking about Juve cheating and might not know what Calciopoli was about.

And penalty or not, how about uefa to use VAR? It's a tool been around for a long time. Don't be scared of it so much. uefa used to print 'Fair Play' on players' jerseys and then realized that's so fake so they changed to 'Respect'. I think they should print 'Rigged' instead.

Not that Im against it, but in a situation like yesterday, no one still knows if there was a penalty or not. After have seen it 40+ times, I still have doubts. They talked about it in the studio after the game (the danish analysts), and also said even with VAR in that situation the ref might still not have been helped.

It does help, because it gives the ref a little bit of extra time to decide. Also, if he gets the chance to rethink his initial decision, it's easier for fans to accept that his final decision was in good faith. For the players too hopefully. I know for a fact that if Oliver had made the same decision after using the VAR, I would have been okay with it (similar debatable calls have gone both ways in Belgian football this season, after the use of the VAR).
