Juventus midfielder Emerson has confessed that he did not know the ball was at his feet until team-mate Fabio Cannavaro told him.

The Brazilian was gifted the goal by a howler from Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese two minutes from time to send the Italians through to the UEFA Champions League quarter final on the away goals rule.

However, Emerson has confirmed he knew nothing about the fumble until his centre back pointed it out.

Patrick Vieira concedes Juventus got out of jail against Werder Bremen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Drawing 1-1 in the second leg at Stadio delle Alpi, The Old Lady appeared to be heading out of the competition until an horrendous late error from goalkeeper Tim Wiese gift-wrapped a goal poached by Emerson.

Fabio Capello's side progressed on away goals after drawing 4-4 on aggregate but Vieira has paid tribute to an excellent performance by the Germans who almost pulled off an upset against the lacklustre Italians.

"Werder Bremen played really well and made it very difficult for us," Vieira told Sky Sports News.

"Obviously the last goal we scored was a relief and we are very happy to go through to the next round.

"I think the goalkeeper had a really good game but in the end made that mistake and Emerson scored.

"Maybe we didn't play very well but we showed a lot of spirit and fought until the end."

Juve are now through to the quarter finals and have moved a step closer to Champions League glory, a target that Capello has always claimed is his side's number one goal this campaign.

However, the former Arsenal midfielder admits his side will have to perform considerably better in the next round in order to progress further, particularly if the Bianconeri are paired with Chelsea's conquerors Barcelona in Friday's draw.

"Anything is possible, there are some fantastic teams left in," added Vieira.

"Barcelona went through and maybe they are playing the best football at the moment but we have to believe in ourselves.

"We are a very strong team and anyone can win the competition."

Of course it was luck. But there are some persons here that we can only win by luck. And well we needed a lot of skill to make the first goal (the one trez), remember that without it the history would have been different probably.

just remember everybody in this forum loves Juve & some members are blinded by that love.theres nothing wrong with luck, certain members are purely concerned because Juve was owned sooo badly by bremen & thats why ppl are a bit pesimistic about Juve's chances of progress.
