NEDVED: ARSENAL GOOD AS THROUGH
By Neil Mcleman

PAVEL NEDVED has admitted Juventus have no chance of overturning Arsenal's two-goal lead in Italy next week.

The Czech midfielder was forced to sit out the Champions League quarter-final, first leg defeat at Highbury while he served a one-match ban.

He is now the key man for the return leg, but appears to have run up the white flag of surrender already.

Nedved reckons the suspension of Patrick Vieira, Jonathan Zebina and Mauro Camoranesi for the second game means the Serie A leaders will be unable to fight back.

"If we were at full-strength for the return game then we might have a chance, but now it will be extremely hard," said the former Golden Ball winner.

"I am not looking forward to the match given the fact we will have so many players missing.

"It will be very difficult. Maybe it is over for us this year.

"We played quite well at the beginning on Tuesday, but everything went wrong after the first goal."

Alessandro Del Piero, who also missed the first leg with a thigh strain, took part in a light running session yesterday but is unlikely to be fit for the second leg on Wednesday.

PRESS GANG UP ON VIEIRA
ARSENAL IN EUROPE: The night Gunners unveiled a new Highbury hero

THE Italian press savaged Juventus after their pathetic Highbury display.

And ex-Gunner Patrick Vieira, who gave away the ball for the first goal, came in for special criticism.

Corriere dello Sport blasted: "In the theatre where he once directed the orchestra he dropped the baton."

Tuttosport reckoned the French midfielder's performance proved Arsene Wenger was right to sell him.

The Turin-based paper admitted: "In the end those at Highbury understood just what a good bit of business Wenger had done."

Gazzetta dello Sport said Vieira, 29, was "outclassed" by his former "pupil" Cesc Fabregas.

With Juve eight points clear at the top of Serie A, the result came as a body blow to Italian football.

Gazzetta added: "In 90 minutes the long ball to Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only attacking threat they made."

In the end, Tuttosport's main headline said it all: "Miracle Needed."

Also Mutu and Zembina were like sick in the game with Arsenan. But the think that it gets me angry is that Arsenal was too fast in attack that we couldn't stop them and Juve from the other side was so slow like turtle.

Fabregas made as all the damage. He put as the first goal and he feed Henri for the second one.

Arsenal will play the same formation and players, probably with Ljungberg coming in for Pires (if he's fit).

I'm hoping that Henry, Hleb and Reyes get their game together because they didn't perform well last game.

Reyes was full of running, but needs to provide more end product than falling on the floor; the other two were very below par for long stretches of the game.

Cannavaro: Juventus should've been more defensive at Arsenal
tribalfootball.com - March 30, 2006

Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro believes they should have been more defensive this week at Arsenal.

"I don't think we are physically in trouble," insisted Cannavaro as he reflected on the 2-0 reverse. "We have been running all year and always work hard.

"Perhaps we should've waited for them here and forced them to come forward slowly rather than hit us on the break. That would've been the smart course of action.

"We came up against a team that was great on the counter-attack and it all became easier for them after the opening goal, as the space opened up.

"We had held possession quite well in the first half, but it all went wrong after that opener."

I think Nedved is right, even with a full squad we would not be able to turn the result around in our favour! If we were Milan playing attacking football i would say its possible but not Juve with this style of play.

Its hard but we have to wait again till we maybe one day win the CL again, but only with a new coach imo!

lets get behind this team with some OPTIMISM. what do you think the team WANTS its fans to say it cant win?

WE CAN MAKE THAT DIFFERENCE!

we have nothing to lose on wednesday and we are going to go all out and score those 2 goals.

remember that feeling when nedved crossed for del piero who headed it back and trezeguet scored past casillas? remember that feeling when del piero shimmied hiero and drove it bottom left? or when zambrotta did that half volley through to nedved who half volleyed it first time? I REMEMBER THAT FEELING AND REMEMBER WHAT WAS SAID BEFORE THE GAME, HOW WE COULD NEVER DO IT! WE DID AND WE ARE GIONG TO DO IT AGAIN!

Bye bye CL.
I just checked on soccernet and saw that Marchionni is 25. That's a bit of a bummer IMO. We need lightning in that midfield. Emo and Vieira are good players but simply cancel each other to make us slow in the middle.I feel Emo has more passion in him so Paddy should bench, but that's just my opinion.

It's funny how games like Tuesday r able 2 reveal the truth people have been denying ( including me),about our team and it's prolific weakness(es). We r a lighter case of Real Madrid that needs midfield rebuilding.
