Stu, it wasn't all a long ball game, that was just the last half hour. Before that we saw possession after possession wasted as neither Zlatan or DP could come up with anything at all. It sure would have been nice to have Cassano if he were able to get some shots on goal for us.

In the past few years Moggi has brought in cheap hardworking players like Baiocco, Appiah and Blasi, players who have a great work ethic but less naturally talent than me or you. Who's next? Ledesma? Taddei? We need to stop being so damn stingy and bring in some real reinforcements. Cannavaro, Emerson and Zlatan were steps in the right direction but we need to push on now. A creative midfielder is a must. We can't do without one of them. Nedved is past his prime, so is Del Piero although he's proved he can still be useful this season, and it doesn't look like Olivera is going to be anywhere close to as good as I thought he might be. Kapo I still don't know a lot about but I do know that we need someone like Rosicky or Riquelme.

That is true, DP is not to blame. our midfield is not good, and to tell the truth Emerson is also not that good..

Even when we had a lot of possession we didn't move the ball with any conviction. There was no game plan whatsoever, if there was it wasn't evident on the pitch. We moved the ball around slowly hoping that an opening would be created. The lack of creativity and movement in this side is pathetic. Cassano may have been able to do more on the night but I'm just saying that the blame doesn't fall on the shoulders of the persons playing upfront in this type of situation because the midfield was non-existent.

@Maresca78: As brilliant a defensive midfielder as Emerson is, he offers very little in attack which is why playing Blasi or Tacchinardi next to him in the flat 4-4-2 we were using earlier this season was so disappointing. Last night we were just incapable of stringing good passing sequences together and getting our danger men into space.

Del Piero had no chance at all.
He was marked out and had no service.
Admitedly, the Juve midfield is not as strong as eveybody makes it out to be. They defintely could have done better.
Every 50-50 ball was nearly won by Liverpool.
They lost out in most of the arial battles

I was watching the Irish broadcast of this match,
The analyst was Ray Haughton (ex-Liverpool) and Liam Brady (ex-Juve) and both lamblasted Juve for showing little disire and spirit.
I actually agreed with them!!!

As much as I admire Capello for all the trophies he has won in the past, I kind of think that his tactics are a bit outdated.
Kind of like Alex Ferguson.....
He urged patience and used longball.

As a Juve fan, I am disappointed, but one of my friends who is neutral, Barca man, fell asleep cause the match was so boring.
Yes defense is important but you can't win without attacking and Juve are way too cautious when attacking.
I rather see a Juventus side lose and score loads then get dumped out of a 1/4 finals without even making 1 good shot throughout the match.

I am not asking for the over the top attacking like say Kevin Keegan tactic where they score 4 and we score 5, that is stupid but 1-nils are so dangerous.

It's all very well saying the forwards had no service from the midfield, that was true last night.

But what is the point of having forwards who can only perform when the rest of the team performs?

That is utterly pointless! So, if the midfield doesn't create, Juve has no attack at all?!

The attackers have to take some of the responsibility, and they have to be good enough to create chances for themselves if the midfield isn't doing so.

People seem to be saying that the attackers did all that they could, that is absolute nonsense!! These are supposedly world class strikers! If they have to rely on others to have any effect on the game then they shouldn't be at Juve.

Also, everyone says the midfield needs to support the attackers, but the attackers doing their bit would help support the midfield as well, it isn't all the midfield's fault. They both offer support to each other. Although I agree they aren't up to the standard Juve requires.

I believe Zlatan can create for himself, he just didn't last night, as for the other attackers - I don't think they can, and we need fresh blood in their place.

i dissagree here, esp ZLATAN and some times DP tried to create and they did some dribbling, but who other than maradona, can take the ball from the middle, dribble and run through all the opponents defence, all alone and then score?
Maybe in their best days owen,henry,sheva and thats it!
Football is a collective game everybody has his place,
when many members of the group underwork,
like the majority did yesterday, the rest cant recover everything by their own,

DP played very good yesterday, but Nedved playe catastrophaly. Emerson was IMO MoM.
But DP is a player which is not fast, not good in jumping, so he needs balls right in front of the goal to put them in. But for this you need Ronaldinho style players. And we don't have them. Maybe Nedved in his best years.
If I got right we played yesterday:

Nedved-- Emo-- Olivera--Camo

Olivera is IMO not player for that position. There would we need some Rosicky, Aimar, Riquelme.

Nedved's era is going to an end. So we need a replacement on a wing. But I just don't want a winger wich would help with running in the centre (Nedved), but a want a pure winger.

Zlatan imo was the best player in yesterday match yes zlatan creates his own goals but this dosent mean the mdifield lacks!! come on we have amazing players who sit on the bench most of the time!

Before the long ball started the ref ruled out 4 onside situations as offsides and I think this is a reason why the players stopped trying what they were trying and switched to the long ball instead.

Actually I imagined after the break the players will come with a better mentality to my surprise they were in a worse mentality

It's all very well saying DP and Zlatan tried to create, but if they spent 90 minutes trying - how come we had approximately 2 chances in the entire game (and neither were created by the attackers)?

If the sum of all their efforts for 90 minutes was 2 half chances, then surely that suggests they weren't up to the job?

I'm not saying they should have run through the entire defence on their own - but you must expect them to create at least something?! Or pose some threat?!

I agree the whole team was off, but you cannot say DP and Zlatan have no responsibility for the match because the service was poor (as some have been suggesting here) - they all have to step forward and take up the challenge. No one can be excused because they have to rely on others for ALL their chances.

Of course, it could have just been an off night, which for Zlatan I think it was, however, DP seems to have more 'off' nights than 'on' nights and it was cruelly exposed last night.

That's the truth, the ineffectiveness of Juve's attack was exposed for all to see last night. No amount of excuses can hide that fact.

I don't know why ppl still blame Alex...he had a good second half..Zlatan was good too.our main problem was our midfiled.Neddy didn't play good and Emo was really bad.also IMO Capello decesions were crap last night....I hope we buy some new good players for the next season.one for replacing Neddy,and Cassano for attack.

The game was lost in the first thirty minutes at Anfield. Capello would have been aware how powerful Liverpool can play at Anfield as we knocked his Roma side out the competition two years before in a very emotionally charged match following the return of Houllier from serious illness. The message however did not get through to the players who came out onto the pitch.

True in both matches the officials also played their part, disallowing a perfectly good goal at Anfield and stifling play at Turin, but in the main Juventus were out fought and out thought by a side who had no rights to progress further decimated by long term injuries to key players and a team in the middle of rebuilding

For me as a fan of Liverpool the long term prospects look extremely promising if we can retain Gerrard and partner him with the excellent Alonso. For Juve, I'm not so sure, a catalogue of wins by narrow margins and a limp performance for 90 minutes at Turin point to the need for a change in Manager - perhaps I'm being unfair to Capello but playing with caution has its risks and Juventus paid for it last night

We now face Chelsea, another daunting prospect, no doubt the footballing world will write us off again - we'll just have to shut up and let our performances on the pitch talk for us. Will we win?

Good luck for the rest of the season in the Seria A and maybe we'll meet again next year if we are lucky - 20 years was too long
