Capello calls for patient Juve Tuesday 12 April, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus boss Fabio Capello believes patience will be key in Wednesday’s Champions’ League tie against Liverpool.

The Turin giants need to overturn a 2-1 defeat at Anfield, but the Coach wants his side to pace themselves rather than run the risk of conceding a potentially lethal away goal.

"We need to play with intelligence," warned the tactician. "Obviously we’ll have to be aggressive but also prudent. We shouldn’t be in a rush to score.

"There will be trouble if we all went forward and allowed them to counter-attack."

The Bianconeri already came from behind in the previous round when they cancelled a 1-0 loss at Real Madrid with a 2-0 victory at the Delle Alpi.

"We are playing at home and we must look to limit their play," continued the former Roma boss.

"However, I think we are in the right frame of mind as we were when we took on Real. This time we only need one goal though…"

Capello confirmed that he will be without the injured David Trezeguet and suggested he will play with three at the back.

"There is nothing we can do about David," he noted. "He tried to train today but was still feeling pain in his ankle. I don’t know when he will be back.

"If we play with three quick players in defence then I think we can stop them from being dangerous.

"Yet the most crucial thing will be the filter provided by the midfield. Emerson is fine and will play."

While the Brazilian has been cleared to start, Liverpool will be without the injured Steven Gerrard.

"The Reds will be compact but will be without a leader and that could weigh them down," continued Capello.

"I expect Xabi Alonso to replace Gerrard which will give them less dynamism but perhaps a little more quality."

Given the absence of Trezeguet, captain Alex Del Piero will definitely start in attack alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"We’ll go through if we play to our strengths by playing the ball to feet and quickly," stated the Italian No 10.

"Liverpool are a good side away from home though and they could cause us problems on Wednesday.

"But we are in the same situation as before the Real game. We need to win to go through even if we only need a goal."

Juventus squad: Buffon; Montero, Pessotto, Emerson, Ibrahimovic, Del Piero, Nedved, Chimenti, Birindelli, Camoranesi, Appiah, Zambrotta, Blasi, Thuram, Bonnefoi, Kapo, Olivera, Zalayeta, Cannavaro

From Capello's statement, it sounds like he will be playing something like this:

Buffon

Pessotto - Thuram - Cannavaro

Camoranesi - Emerson - Blasi - Zambrotta

Nedved

Ibrahimovic - Del Piero

Capello says he thinks Juve can shut down Liverpool with three quick player at the back. That leaves me to believe Zambrotta will take the left wing all for himself, and Pessotto will play instead of Montero in defense. The midfield shield will most likely be composed of Emerson and Blasi, and if we play three at the back it seems to me that Nedved will be given a central role. Hopefully Capello noticed what I saw on Tuesday with Nedved causing Liverpool more problems in his advanced role.

Whats makes u feel that Capello would start with Tacchi...
Well, simply because Tacchi has been playing better than Blasi in recent weeks. Capello has had to substitute the latter in a couple recent matches at halftime because Manuele was playing so poorly. I think Cap will realize Tacchi is still the better player.

Should have used the 4-3-1-2 formation in the start. And can u pls put Pessoto instead of Blasi?

Well said coach..
Except having 3 in the back...im not so sure about that...
I think that actually this time 3-4-1-2 is the right formation
With three at the back, it menas that thuram and montero will deal with baros and canna (when neccesary helped by zamrotta) with garcia
and considering that none of their midfielders is a really attacking one then emerson and blasi (I think it's gonna be him though I prefer Pessotto) can deal with alonso and biscan
camo and zabrotta will hold the flanks (they will defend against risse and I guess Nunez)
this leaves Nedved to run after one of the full-backs and one of the strickers ti run after the other full-back
I am just trying to guess what Capello has in mind, I think he knows that we can score, but he wants to make sure that we don't concede and the best way I think is to stop Liverpool from their part of the pitch
anyway I am very confident that we will go through

You analysis is correct Andy, but I still have a feeling that Capello will start Blasi next to Puma
I sure hope not because we saw what Blasi did in the first leg. We need players that can control the ball, not give it away in Turin. Blasi is not the player for this match.

Meanwhile, some good news for Liverpool supporters. The Reds may have travelled to Turin without deep breath Morientes, Pellegrino,
Hamann, Kewell, Josemi, Sinama-Pongolle, Kirkland, Gerrard and Mellor
and relax, but Djibril Cisse is available. Yes, the same Cisse who
suffered a career-threatening injury just six months ago. "He will not start, but we will use him in the last 20 minutes if we need something different," explained Rafa Benitez.

Well, that means Blasi will start then. That is a huge loss, as ridiculous as it sounds.
Capello has lots of faith in this Blasi... i know he screwed it up BIG time in the last couple of matches.. but he surely will be different this time..

I don't have faith in him. Blasi is a liability, nothing more.
